This is turning out to be quite male heavy edition.

Re: "American Horror Story: Hotel"
I'm kind of excited to see a season without Jessica Lange's over-the-top-ness. Sorry, but as great as she is on the show she's also kind of annoying. Especially got on my nerves during Freakshow. During season 1 her schtick was refreshing but her act has gone stale, IMO.

Re: "American Horror Story: Hotel"
Finn Wittrock just joined the cast as a lead. YES! He was the best part of last season's shitfest.
It sounds like there will be a love triangle between him, Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer.
So now the current cast includes:
Lady Gaga Matt Bomer Finn Wittrock Sarah Paulson Evan Peters Wes Bentley Cheyenne Jackson Kathy Bates Angela Bassett Chloe Sevigny Max Greenfield
shut the fuck up zwackerm, you're out of your fucking element

Re: "American Horror Story: Hotel"
I bet Jessica Lange will end up having a small role, a la Neil Patrick Harris' late-emerging character in the prior season.

Reviews so far are the worst for any season of the show. It can't be any worse than last season though, which was a pretty mixed bag.

"Freak Show" was awful. There's no way this will be that bad.

Re: "American Horror Story: Hotel"
I gave up on Freak Show a few episodes in. Just couldn't get into it.
Coven was fun but the first season is still the best.
I think i'll wait to gauge reaction before watching Hotel. I heard that it harkens back to Season 1's tone (according to Murphy) but we'll see.

Re: "American Horror Story: Hotel"
I mostly enjoyed the first episode. The hotel is sumptuous and creepy. In terms of "story" (ha ha ha), I s'pose I am modestly interested in the Wes Bentley character and his search for his son and a murderer, but nothing is very involving so far beyond the spectacle.
Also not sure yet re: Gaga. She wears the bejeweled glove well and is striking in her dialogue-free introductory scene (She Wants Revenge must be pleased for the reintroduction to a large audience), but her acting is hesitant and a shade wooden.
The Hunger and The Shining are the obvious reference points so far.

Re: "American Horror Story: Hotel"
I find it strange how many people refer to Coven as this series' low point. I remember it very fondly. No season of American Horror Story maintains internal cogency or exhibits anything resembling thematic or even stylistic consistency, but Coven featured many wonderful characters and a solidly told story.

I thought the premiere was solid.

It is hands down the best and most entertaining season.
