I'm not going to be able to handle next week if I've barely been able to get by these past two weeks.

Just a beautiful episode with another fantastic ending.

So happy the Barney and Robin wedding happened as it should have. And Lily and Marshall rewriting their vows was super sweet. And I got really nostalgic with the final slap. I'm going to miss all of these characters so much.

SO. EMOTIONALLY. UNPREPARED. FOR. NEXT. WEEK.

Pretty good stuff.

Glad Ted told Robin he didn't love her like that anymore. Good job, Teddy.

Yeah, this is clearly ending with the bus stop scene.

I have my fingers crossed the newborn is somehow going to spur Robin and Barney back together, because I can't take her ending up with Ted.

CLOSE ENOUGH (also terrible)

1- The biological mother is out of the picture as of the time Older Ted is telling the story. Probably death. She's just some woman we haven't met yet. We'll meet her at the end, find out she's gone/dead, sad moment full of pathos for the show.
2- The kids will be all like, "what the fuck, dad? Why did we have to hear all of that other stuff?"
3- "Well, kids, I told you it was all the story of How I Met Your Mother. I meant it. I'm going to marry your Aunt Robin. Your new stepmother."
4- "WHAT!?"

It makes perfect sense, although it saddens me. I don't want this ending. But it ties everything back to episode one, and means the show didn't waste years and years on a relationship we all thought could go nowhere. It's a sharp twist. It gives the title a double meaning; biological mother AND step mother. And, most importantly, it gives Older Ted a compelling reason for telling this story in the first place: helping the kids with the transition to a new mother.

Keep in mind that we know they shot something with the kid actors to save for the last episode.

Please, give my Barney/Robin loving heart reason to think this is all way off base.

I'm like sobbing because I've been a dedicated, loyal viewer of this since September 2005 and it's finally over and I dunno what to even say lol.

Yet I feel cheated by it. The mother dying and Ted ending up with Robin was was my worst fear for the show's ending and it came true. Poor Tracy!

I'm just going to have to remember all the good times before this. One ending that falls flat does not negate (basically) nine seasons of joy. Thanks for all the laughs, HIMYM.

Don't let 'em off the hook! Finales aren't THAT hard. Showrunners should be force-fed the last episode of Cheers Clockwork Orange-style before being allowed to write this junk

I don't hate the idea of the mother dying, but for God's sake at least give her some actual scenes. Outside of that lovely bit at the train station she's just a bit player in everyone else's scenes.

And then to top it all off -- Robin? Really?

Give Tracy a ton more to do here and end it with Ted telling the kids how much he loved her and I feel way, way better about what I just saw.

If I hadn't given up around season five, I'd be super pissed right now. :funny:

A whole season devoted to a wedding only to see it dissolve in 15 minutes.
The mom dying basically being an afterthought.
And because there is no better way to put it...

And that's how they've been planning it since early in season two.

Predictable, sloppy, yet somehow still watchable because the cast is/was great together.
