Still he had couple of really tough matches and he had the determination to win through difficult situations. Plus clay has never been his favorite surface and he always looks beatable.
Straight set win against soderling would be impressive.

Fantastic win for Federer. Played well in all the key moments made it an easy win. This puts him above sampras.
Now the question is would this help him recapture his magic or will he continue to be among the mortals.

Wimbledon starts tomorrow with Roger Federer opening up play.
Looking forward to an Andy v Andy semifinal and a potential Williams sisters final.

I'm picking:
Roger and Serena to win Wimbledon.

I never did like Wimbledon not playing matches on Sunday. It's so elitist.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '09
Gentlemen's Draw Lleyton Hewitt AUS v. Andy Roddick USA (6) Andy Murray GBR (3) v. Juan Carlos Ferrero ESP Tommy Haas GER (24) v. Novak Djokovic SRB (4) Ivo Karlovic CRO (22) v. Roger Federer SUI (2)
Ladies' Draw Dinara Safina RUS (1) v. Sabine Lisicki GER Venus Williams USA (3) v. Agnieszka Radwanska POL (11) Francesca Schiavone ITA v. Elena Dementieva RUS (4) Victoria Azarenka BLR (8) v. Serena Williams USA (2)
On the Men's side, the three names that began the tournament talked about as the potential champions are still in it: Federer, Murray and Roddick. Djokovic is still in there too and is hardly being talked about which is odd because he's one of the oft talked about big four but I can see Haas taking him out - Haas has been on a pretty good streak as of late. Karlovic is always a tricky opponent because he just doesn't lose serve, you have to hold yours and get in to tiebreaks and hope that he misses some first serves and gives you a look. This is why I'm worried for Federer and really would have liked any of the other QF opponents for him. Hewitt has had a good run thus far, JMDP was a good win, but having to come back from 0-2 down against Stepanek doesn't bode well, neither does Murray being stretched to five by Wawrinka. Still, I would be surprised if we don't see a Andy v Andy semi and the winner facing Fed in the final.
On the Women's side, it's looking very probable that we'll have the top four seeds in the semifinals. Serena has the toughest opponent, but if they both played the way they did today Serena should take it. It's hard to see anyone stopping a second straight Williams' final.

WOW! Great match going on between Serena and Elena. I'll be happy with either winning.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '09
Since I don't get off work till 300 I'm hoping that NBC shows the other half of the Serena v Dementieva match because I was listening to that via wimbledon radio and that was classic. Serena had to serve to stay in match in both the 2nd and 3rd and Elena was ripping returns no matter what Serena served except for the 20 or so aces Serena blew past her. That was ultra competitive and a nearly 3hr contest. Great match. Please play that as the 2nd match NBC!
Venus is BLOWING Safina off the court. Don't get up in Venus's house. Nuh uh baby. You are #1 only in the computers eyes.

the brit commentators don't hold anything back. "She (Dinara) was humiliated!"
gratz to Venus. I guess she had an appointment she had to get to because she wasn't interested in playing any games. It was all business.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '09
women's tennis sucks big time. Few years back when Sharapova won Wimbledon out of no where and we had the belgians(henin/clijsters)/Williams sisters I thought women's tennis was more interesting. Now its a snoozefest.
Murray/Federer final should be awesome.

This is going to make french open final a difficult win. Roddick in a slam final is always easy pickings for Fed.

Re: The Tennis Thread - French Open '09
I couldn't help but find myself rooting for Roddick against Murray. Either would have been a good story for the finals but since I'm not a Brit I didn't have a vested interest in Murray. That said, there's probably a 5% chance that Roddick is going to upset Federer on Sunday.
Here's to #15!
