Re: 2012 Major League Baseball Discussion
Wow, Gonzalez, Crawford, and Beckett may go to Dodgers all at once.

And Punto, this season has just been a disaster.
Valentine needs to go after this year.

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball Discussion
And hopefully the door will hit them on the way out (though Beckett did help in one title). They've just been gigantic wastes of money and now most of that salary will be dumped on the Dodgers. On the bright side for them, Gonzalez will probably feel more at home in a National League park so he'll probably end up being worth it to them.

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball Discussion
I agree, that frees something like 260 million for next year. There's a lot of good that come from that. Sign Ellisbury. Then we really just need a 1st Baseman (Perhaps we can get Hamilton) and another outfielder. Though I wonder if Ceriaco could be a replacement for Crawford, he definitely can hit wise. And bring Bard back for relief. Small adjustments will put September 2011 to September 2012 a distant memory.

I do not understand why AZ is struggling with the Padres. 7 straight losses to them. It's ridiculous.

He'll need at least 7-8 more home runs for the triple crown. I don't think he has it in him. Still, winning batting and rbis as well as being seriously overdue will give Cabrera the MVP.

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball Discussion
Random announcement! I am no longer a Toronto Blue Jays "fan". I have never felt an urge to watch their games or feel particularly invested in their direction and W/L. Plus the AL East has always made it feel like a losing game to put any investment in it. Baseball is not my thing, I wonder if ambivalence for the team has something to do with that. I feel the best way to make baseball something I like is to try a new team
I might have to try a few teams out to find one who sticks (I tried the Vikings and Ravens for the NFL before settling on the BILLS). But for now I am a fan of the CHICAGO CUBS. I like the move to the NL and a division that can be competed in, I like the idea of a team that's current bad and has a history of getting punched in the nuts, and Theo Epstein seems like a good horse to attach a cart to.
Go Cubs!

Re: 2012 Major League Baseball Discussion
Just seeing Anthony Rizzo hit a grand slam in a highlight was the most attached I've felt to a baseball play. Also I'm cheering on the Cubs to shatter the Pirates dreams of a winning season after the sweep last week and this series. I think I made a good choice.

The Nats and the Reds are in the playoffs. Magnus and I called at the beginning of the season that the Nats would be in the playoff. Their pitching has been lights out.

Wow, Miggy becomes the first Triple Crown winner since Yas in 1967. Looks like Trout will have to settle for his Rookie of the Year and Gold Glove award.

I'm glad I got to see/watch a triple crown winner. May never happen again in my lifetime. Man, he deserves it and there is something seriously effed up if he doesn't get it.

Wow, the first Wildcard game in history ends ugly, with Braves fans acting like Cubs fans. But the Braves deserved to lose with their lousy defense.
