What are the chances of this staying flat on Sunday?.

I really hope it has a great run in it. Because it's a phenomenal movie.

I have no idea what it is going to happen today or in the future. I think Friday may have been like Saratoga, Stalingrad or Gettysburg, this movie will be still be able to do damage at the b.o., but the war is lost. I don't mean in terms of OW record, or #1 domestic for the year, but numbers like $500m or maybe even $400m. I don't know what to compare it to in terms of any type of precedent. I am in the bargaining stage, and it seems like many are still in denial. I am on my fifth bottle of Grand Marnier, and I hope to be at accetance by the my 7th.

Anyway, if I were a 12-year-old boy, I know I would find Avengers better than TDKR. But I'm not, and I find TDKR faaaar more interesting and entertaining than Avengers. Avengers is a movie that's pretty enjoyable while it lasts, and then you forget about it and move on. TDKR has stayed with me, certain scenes have moved me, some other scenes have blown me away in awe. There is no comparison possible IMO.

BB, TDK and TDKR are by far the best superhero movies ever made, for me. I know I found Spider-Man 2 quite great back in 2004, but today I actually like it less, because I've seen what a superhero movie can be.

I hope WB doesn't have the bad idea of continuing the Batman series in Nolan's universe, without him. I don't want to see any director continue Nolan's series, not even his brother.

I don't regret anything I wrote about TDKR on this thread or any of the the others. I was wrong, but I am not Nostradamus. I don't calculate the effects of a spree killing in a theater or the collapse of the world economy which I know are always faintly possible of happening any given weekend.

I don't think any of us should be ashamed for thinking a 2D film like TDKR could break the record before Friday.

Legs will be great but we must realize that for a film to get a record gross it still needs to have a huge opening. TDKR opening is huge but not much bigger then TDK and I don;t believe that it will get the same legs.

People now saying $400M might not even happen? Fools. $500M is definitely still happening and I have faith it can and will still beat TDK. In fact I don't think it's even completely safe to say Avengers has beat it, let's first wait and see what kind of rebound this movie can get

Sadly, I agree with what Manny said. To an extent. This isn't developing late legs to the tune of 620 million. We live in a very instant society. After the first two, maybe three weeks, many people will figure it'll be at Redbox soon enough.

I think there is a chance that this finishes the weekend under $150 m (currently predicting $148 m), but still gets a 3.7 multiplier to approach $550 m +. But this weekend, I think people want to hold off from seeing it.

But imo, TDKR may have an opening weekend under TDK.

My belief was this for TDKR.

Near or around 200 million weekend but around TDK admissions or a bit above.

The Avengers did great but it did have a 20% 3D premium opening weekend. If that was extrapolated for its entire run, without 3D, from a $620 m gross, that would adjust to about $517 m.

Imo, anything over $400 m for TDRK is a good performance for the film.

No you cannot take the opening weekend 3D premium and put it for the whole run.

The 3D share took a dive in the 2nd weekend and after Memorial day and after PROM it was pretty much a 2D film...

In 2D it would made around 530-540 million.

Wouldn't we be able to "adjust" TDKR's opening by comparing to how it did in Australia and the UK compared to TDK? If they rose or dropped compared to TDK and TDKR dropped here?

US: adjusts to a $63.24m for 3 day opening
Australia: $3.2m
UK: $6.5m

TDK

US: $158.4m
Australia: $11.4m
UK: $22.3m

US: 150%
Australia: 250%

Wow, this went from most anticipated BO run ever to the most anti-climatic. Every single prediction has been rendered moot imo. There's just no way to gauge how much the shooting affected the BO.

There will be ways, but they will always be theories and therefore flawed. Another entry in the great what-ifs of the box office.

True but we need to remember that TA and TDKR are two of the biggest openings ever in this country.


It is comparable and all signs showed to it getting TDK admissions or TA admissions + a few percent.
However I do not think you can say it would have broken 200 million or 210 million.
