Anyone with me that these Batman trailers aren't as impressive as they should be, or as impressive as the Prometheus trailers? In my humble opinion they ain't even close. The Batwing was cool though, and I can imagine the Bane escape at the beginning looks bonkers in Imax..

I think they're good, but not great. They're not equivalent to "most anticipated/movie event of the decade" as some ppl have been saying here..

All I'm saying is I didn't get that "most hyped movie of all time" feeling from the trailers. Imo they should've been bigger, and better. Like the first two Prometheus trailers..

Not what Nolan wants though, he's going for atmosphere and a feeling over explosions action and a promise of awesomeness that everyone will figure out is BS, the advertising/trailers are perfect in the sense that they bulster the hype without making outlandish promises that can never be met.

Yeah, I get that. I wouldn't want this to become Transformers or some BS like that either. It should be atmospheric and moody, but I don't think its doing that good of a job at upping the ante and boosting the hype. I'm sure the movie will be quite impressive though.. When I saw the Prometheus trailer I went like OH SHIT!!! I got to see this. I didn't get that "oh shit" feeling from the TDKR trailers. But I will still try to watch it on opening day because I'm a huge Batman fan, and its still my 2nd most anticipated movie of the year..

Oh its boosting the hype, the trailer view count in just two nights on youtube is crazy, it should be to 15m+ views by Friday evening, people are digging this subtle ad campaign, I think it makes the people feel like they are the ones hyping the film instead of the studio. Very similar to the Hunger Games advertising.

The Prometheus trailer is the very best of the totally awesome in your face spectacle trailers, and its got quality written all over it, but the trailer also hypes the film into being one of the best ever made and now it has to deliver. This is Ridley Scott, we know he can deliver the problem is he hasn't done so on a scale of epic magnitude in a very long time. I think Nolan and WB are being incredibly smart with the TDKR advertising.

And I'm worried that it wont deliver and live up to the hype, unfortunately..

What BJ said. Nolan didn't give away all the money shots in the trailer on purpose. He went with a very emotional trailer on purpose. That will really hook in the non-fanboy audiences, and the taglines like "the end of The Dark Knight legend" will also hook in non-fanboy audiences. The trailer is meant to make the film a must see event for the average person. I'm seeing some complaining about the trailers in some forums just because Nolan didn't give away all the money shots, but Nolan knows what he's doing. The TDK trailers gave away more money shots because TDK still had something to prove; Batman Begins was not a huge hit and they needed the money shots to help hype it. Since TDK and Inception, obviously Nolan doesn't need big money shots to hype his films. Prometheus trailers gave away too many money shots I think.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW > Superman Returns total Club
The Dark Knight's midnight opening was $18.5m, and that was 27.5% of its opening day. If this gets $30m and is, say, 30%...$100m. BOOM.

Doubling TDK's midnights is what I have it at right now. $40m will probably depend on if it gets enough demand for 3am showings (which were counted into Potter 7-2's total, I believe).

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW > Superman Returns total Club
Keep in mind that the 3D % of HP8's midnight numbers was pretty high because all of those showings were apparently sold out, so I'm gonna guess that anything over $40 million for this is about impossible. Also, Half-Blood Prince broke TDK's midnight record a year later on a Tuesday night by over 20%, so the Harry Potter franchise has always had more of a tendency towards midnight numbers anyway.
I think anything over $25 million for midnights would be great, and anything north of $31 million would be absolutely insane and arguably put us in uncharted territory.
$100 million OD isn't happening though. At all.

Were they? I was unaware of this. http://www.boxofficeguru.com/071811.htmQuote: Domestically, the new Potter also smashed records for the best ever midnight launch with $43.5M on late Thursday night including 3:00am shows that many theaters added

Yeah I don't think this will need $100 OD to reach/touch $200m OW and if TA can do it in 4-5 days then Batman should definitely make it in 3.
I'm IN.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW > Superman Returns total Club
It is doing 107 million opening day. Avengers just did 63 million on a school day, with 3 day. Batman will have kids & teens off to help. + bigger midnights. Look for Friday to be in the 60-65 range, with midnights & 3AMers in the 40-45 range.
The Dark Knight Rises can't be stopped.
