Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
I am just surprised that BKB can put one thing in so many words and rant about it. Avengers and TDKR has good time between each other to make money. At this time TDKR has an advantage over Avengers to make more. If Avengers turns out great and has amazing WOM it can still beat TDKR period.
Look at TF3 and DH2 they were released so close by but still ended with good totals, Avengers and TDKR has more than double the time gap. Plus TDKR doesn't need to flop for Avengers to look good and vice versa.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
Looking at TDK should easily set the day 2-10 records.
TDK leads from day 5-10. DH2 is the records holder for day 1,2,3,4 grosses. Then is number 2 for day 5 and then TF2 comes ahead to 2nd place on day 6, day 7 and then DH2 is 2nd biggest from day 8-10 and then TF2 comes again from day 12.
Anyways, early projection...
Fri: 85 million Sat: 51 million (lets see if a film can finally take down Spider Man 3 amazing Saturday gross) -40% Sun: 44 million -12%
180 million opening weekend
It will all depend after that... If TDK2 gets bigger drops, TDK1 can easily catch up to it very fast. TDK2 needs to not open massively but needs amazing holds to stay well infront of TDK1.

Yes its amazing that those frontloading records would belong to a franchise that doesn't seem to be as frontloaded.

12.5 million views in 24 hours. Let's say... $8.00 ticket average including IMAX? Or is that too low? That's $100 mil OD

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
Well based of the past the bigger the opening day, the bigger the 2nd day fall.
So a 100 million opening day would likley cause a 200 million weekend but not much more.

That's fine.
If it gets a $100 mil OD, and a $200 mil OW... I'll be just fine with that.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
I wonder if a film will finally breaks Spiderman 3 amazing all time Saturday record.
I think TDK rises can but not in ticket sales. Spiderman 3 got around 51.336 million in 2007 or around 59.5 million adjusted today.
It is still the biggest day in history (with no midnights) and based off that is the biggest day business we have ever seen.

If it gets a $100 mil OD, and a $200 mil OW... I'll be just fine with that. Your setting yourself up for a huge disappointment when this doesn't break 200 Million.. The backlash has already set in with this goofy villain and been spoofed 100 times over now and not in a good way either.. A 2nd rate villan that no one knows outside the fanbase does not equal a 200 Million weekend.. But of course, you have me on that goofy ignore list, so you'll have to find out the hard way I suppose..

Nolan shot himself in the foot with casting a 2nd rate villain along with shitty audio and a lackluster trailer with a football stadium scene that bordered on ridiculous.. The AVENGERS next trailer kills this and with WETA and ILM both doing the FX, I can't see it any other way...

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
Neither the Skrulls nor Loki are going to push the Avengers generic film to box office record levels. With one of the AV bragging rights (most downloads in a day) being lost, it shows just how much more interest TDKR is generating.
Still, the bottom line is that all the villains will have to prove themselves when the films actually come out next year. Lizard, Bane, Catwoman, Loki and Skrulls are going to have to be memorable to help push the box office success.
Since TDKR has Catwoman, the most recognizable and famous of any of the villains/anti-heroes, TDKR has the edge right now.

The Avengers hating is silly, it still has hue interest and should cross 300 million or it would be sad.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
Alright but then they are hardly selling the movie based on Catwoman, incase of Avengers they don't really need to sell the villain cause the concept of mixing superheroes is much more compelling. Before people pound on me for saying that I do agree that TDKR does not need any marketing at all for a (mere) $100m+ opening.

Still can't see this happening. And if someone is disappointed next year when it doesn't open to $200+ milliopn, they can go screw themselves. Any opening above $175 million would be amazing for it.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
Okay, I am IN IN IN. Basis: Previous movie's goodwill, trailer showing an epic story and just how much of a struggle Batman has to overcome in this one and the feeling that Nolan might not let him overcome it completely. Something will be lost/dead/gone. I think the audience has to know what that is, has to see this story to its end.
It might be too dark to break any records besides the early ones, however.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $200+ million OW Club
I don't know if this is even possible. TDK sold 22m tickets in its opening weekend and sold out most of its prime showings at most theaters around the country. TDKR won't get any more sites (TDK had 4250) or screens (TDK had 9000+). The one difference here is that midnights, with much help from TDK itself, have grown substantially in mainstream popularity over the last four years. This could feasibly double TDK's midnight take, but wouldn't that lessen demand from weekend shows?
I'm expecting something in the realm of 180m (a tick above TDK's admissions), which would be fantastic and a good start towards 500m domestic.

The key is more IMAX screens.

Let me stress this 1 more time: TDKR is not, NOT even coming close to 500 Million domestic, not even in the ballpark.. You better settle on 350-380 Million domestic AT BEST for a villain being as spoofed 7 months early as this one is and not in a good way either.. For the record, the summer winners WILL BE in this order:
The AVENGERS PROMETHEUS TDKR The AMAZING SPIDERMAN
