The chances have increased though I still see it making $180m which would still be more than enough to break the OW record both in terms of gross as well as admissions. Not in terms of admissions. Right now the 2011 ticket price estimate is likely wrong. They're estimating a 3 cent drop, which seems like BS considering the last 10 years have averaged 3.8% increases each year. So if you give 3% increases for 2011 and 2012, the average price would be $8.36 in 2012. That puts TDK and SM3 both over $180m. TDK would be $184.4 million and SM3 would be $183.6 million.

I'll go with 175M opening.
Nolan has gained a ton of good will with the reception to Inception. His name recognition may not be quite up there with Cameron's, but with each film he gains an extra footing on cementing his place in pop culture.
Also, Avenger's potential next year is overhyped.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $190+ million OW Club
Also, what does the avengers have to do with this film.
They around 2.5 months apart and have somewhat similar audience.
Both films can be quite big.
This will likley open very large, but it will not sell as many tickets as TDK opening weekend or overall.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $190+ million OW Club
Next week is going to be a really exciting week for TDKR. We are finally getting a new trailer and the 6 minute prologue which I hear is AMAZING ! , but I'm not gonna watch it. We should definitly get a better vibe on this movie after next week is over.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises $190+ million OW Club
A quote from Beaks from AICN who's seen the 6 minute PROLOGUE and this is what he had to say about it:Quote: And a few minutes later, aboard a plane, we hear Bane speak for the first time in a horrible, strangled tone. Tom Hardy's Bane is a substantial, but strangely broken man. He's a bruiser, but not exactly massive. He also struggles with his elocution, which may be intentional, but nevertheless resulted in lots of puzzled post-screening discussions. Honestly, I caught probably half of Bane's dialogue, and every colleague I spoke with had similar difficulty understanding him. I hate to cause problems for Nolan at this stage of the filmmaking process, but if Bane sounds like this throughout the film, it could be an issue. If BANE'S voice supposedly sucks this bad and it's causing post discussions to be not exactly thrilled from the way I'm reading this, this will hurt it's box office potential.. I mean, it's bad enough the AVENGERS is going to kick the shit out of this next summer hands down, but Nolan needs to rectify this real fast.. I mean, if you have to use subtitles for the moviegoers to understand our newest villain, then do so.. Don't be a self centered douchebag Nolan and listen to your moviegoers...

Ouch[/b] Based on a great deal more polls, both internet and beyond (Scream), TDKR has the clear advantage over the Avengers. It has the greatest comic book film ever as a predecessor (TDK, a film which made more than any other film of the genre thanks to phenomenal performances). Avengers is over-hyped for 2 main reasons. It's not the first time a live action crossover has occurred. Freddy vs. Jason did so nearly a decade ago. The crossover appeal is just a gimmick, one that's not nearly as effective as people seem to think it is. Also, people seem to be drastically overrating the drawing potential of Thor/Cap/Hulk compared to that of Iron Man's. Thor and Cap had 3D ticket prices to add to their totals and still didn't come anywhere close to Iron Man's gross. I fail to see how this film is going to be viewed by the majority of the movie going public as anything but Iron Man 3 featuring Thor, Cap and Hulk. Also, TDKR has Nolan as a director, and given what he can do outside of Batman (Inception) I'm pretty sure his name will have a substantially larger draw in the public domain than Whedon's. And I'll probably join them. extensive analysis indicates the max the film can pull in opening wknd is around 215m, and that would require a dark knight level perfect storm. I'm thinking between 195m-205m at the moment, a slight bump from TDK in terms of tickets sold, but not much.

The AVENGERS truly is going to have a few things over it than TDKR: Female appeal with the cast, the kid factor and according to the Poll, Men as well and with that having been said, your very much underestimating the popularity of these chacaters all on 1 screen.. This isn't X-MEN with 2nd rate tier chacaters, but 1st class characters all the way making this movie 5 years in the making.. TDKR basically will appeal to the 20 something year old crowd consisting of mainly boys, while kids will find Nolan's style fucking boring to the max.. You folks have still not answered my question though: Every batfan thinks and somehow knows Bane breaks Batman's back.. What if it doesn't pan out that way and Nolan mis-directed this scene all along to be something else?? Then what?? Will that be a deal breaker for this movie or not?? Yes or no folks??
