Big Pappi won at least 2 if not 3 games for the BoSox in '04 against the Yanks. Yep, good point. Though Big Pappi never had a defensive play like Cruz did today. yeah, not that I remember. Pappi's though was more clutch since they were in a MUST WIN situation after falling down 0-3 in the LCS.

Wow, the Red Sox are pathetic the way they are handling Francona's exit. Stay classy, Boston

If our bats are hot and timely than he doesn't have to pitch a perfect game. Just can't fuck it up for our offense.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
I saw the Tigers win this one, but at a cost (taxed bullpen, 133 pitches by Verlander). Texas still has the upper hand here.
Milwaukee stays alive and guaranteeing going back to Miller Park.

It shouldn't get to that. We should've played game 5 like it was a game 7

So are the Tigers going Scherzer/Fister?
Sounds pretty damn good.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
Their list of achievements is adding up.
8.5 games back and beat Halladay 1-0 to knock out the best team in baseball.
The problem is that they are in the National League, where the pitcher still bats. It is a little hard to take seriously.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
It slows down an already slow game. Baseball didn't have to compete with minute attention spans in the past.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
Doesn't it speed up a game? (pitchers lead to more outs and quicker innings than DHs)

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
I meant that when the pitcher comes up, it is more often than not an easy out. In the American League anything can happen when the 9 hitter comes up. Could be a home run, could be a double play, it is far more exciting than watching a pitcher try to bunt. So they slow down the action of the game, not the actual time length.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
There are a lot more strategies involved when pitcher has to bat though: squeeze, double-switch, how far you want to go with your pitcher when either behind or ahead, etc. In AL, we would never see a lot of the stuff like what Tony La Russa has done in this series. Personally I like having more strategies involved instead of just having pitchers pitch and hitters hit.
