Last Chance Emmy Predix: Balls Only Edition
Emmy noms this Thursday at 5:30 PST. Give me some of your last minute predictions, including at least one "balls only" prediction (aka predict something against what we're all expecting).
Comedy
-At least one underdog comedy will make it to the Outstanding Comedy Series category. Community, Cougar Town, Mike and Molly and The Middle are all in contention, but I'm going with Parks and Recreation to get the spot.
-I'm not predicting The Big C to get nominated. I don't hear the same buzz as Nurse Jackie or Weeds in its prime.
-The Big Bang Theory will miss out again. Lost steam in the ratings and it's close to veteran status now, right around when the veteran nominees start losing nominations.
-Balls Only: One expected Comedy nominee will miss out. I'd love to say it's Glee, just for the sheer backlash it's getting, but I'll go with the "safer" bet: The Office. Seven seasons in and most would agree it hasn't been good for a few seasons. I heard this season was better than the last two? But the damage may be done.
Drama
-The Killing will be nominated for Outstanding Drama. They submit six episodes per show. By that reasoning alone, it'll get in.
-The Walking Dead will miss out. It's been a while since the short first season. And it goes against the grain of normal Emmy contenders.
-Something unexpected will get nominated, and not in a good way. I can't figure out what, but something will get in that makes us go "... really? That?"
-Balls Only: Game of Thrones will not get the nod for Outstanding Drama. Just don't see it. Too far beyond the norm. It'll get a shit-ton of technical nods, maybe Best Directing/Writing. And to the Emmys, that will be the show's best compliment. To the fans, not so much.
How about you guys?

I think Raising Hope is in a much better shape than any of those for the underdog nom. - I expect a shitload of acting nominations for The Good Wife. Last year it got 4. I expect at least 6 this year. - I don't think GoT managed to gain buzz necessary for a nom this year, but I'm betting on it next year (just like True Blood) because the show will remain great. But I think we will see a surprise acting nom (not Dinklage, he's getting a lot of support, so his nomination wouldn't be a surprise really) and I think Maisie will be the one. - I know there's 0% chance but I would love if Terriers managed a surprise nom (it deserved Best Drama nom). But I really don't care about Emmy's this year. Which is strange as last year there were mostly some good winners unlike the years before with mostly shitty winners (*cough* 30 Rock *cough*)...

Re: Last Chance Emmy Predix: Balls Only Edition
I dont see the Killing getting in because of the bad buzz about the middle episodes red herrings and the season finale from bloggers and viewers alike. As for GOT, the last 2 pairs were their best episodes so I can see them getting in. Its ratings grew or was stable during the last 5 episodes unlike The Killing that declined. Its still very fresh in voters mind. Peter Dinklage may get a best supporting actor nomination but I think he has a better chance next year in the lead actor category since its usually less competition balls only nomination Dexter will not get in even though I have Justified as its alt. I can have my cake and eat it can I? The reason is that its the weakest season for it yet and its already in its 5th season but hasnt won yet kind of like how House has stopped being nominated. Theres no John Lithgow or shocking finale to insure a nomination lock like last year I think Ill go for these as the nominees Boardwalk Empire The Good Wife Mad Men Game of Thrones Friday Night Lights Dexter (alternative Justified) As for winning, Good Wife and Boardwalk are Mad Men's biggest competition Mister Ecks wrote: -Something unexpected will get nominated, and not in a good way. You mean like Fringe because that was one of the surprises on the Critics Choice Awards out of the top 10 series being nominated

Re: Last Chance Emmy Predix: Balls Only Edition
I think when genre shows are considered Fringe is behind Game of Thrones, True Blood, The Walking Dead. So I can't see Fringe getting nominated at all.
And the problem with Critics Choice Awards is that this was their first edition. They had to somehow win the "fans" over. I expect their nominations to be more lenient and populist for the first couple of years (so people would start paying attention and say - hey these guys like what we actually like), but later on they will pretty much find their own smugness and get into the prestige games Globes/Emmy play.

Fringe would not be "... really? That?". It would be "omg forrealznowai!!!11"
Yes, it would turn me into a pre-pubescent girl if that happened.
I meant more like House or Grey's Anatomy... but not those. Because their runs are finished. Something else strange... my only example is Blue Bloods. NOT Blue Bloods, like at all, but something like that show. Network crap, basically.

be.redy wrote: Mister Ecks wrote: Network crap, basically. But NOT network crap really. No? Think The West Wing getting nominated long after it was relevant. Or even House like two years ago when there were so many more deserving nominees. Or Weeds and Entourage. Although was Entourage ever really deserving of Best Comedy nods?

No one would be screaming "...really? That?" in outrage over Parenthood getting nominated. You probably don't even watch it so stop hating. Also, it's spelled "wrath." A "wraith" is an apparition.

How did I know you were going to have your little fits as you do in the BO office forums? It was an example and any answer I give would be stepping on other people's toes. Besides people would get puzzled by Parenthood nomination since it doesnt have the critical acclaim, buzz or the ratings to back it up.

Sorry Libs. I watch Parenthood. It's OK. But Murato is right on this one. He nailed it in the last sentence.

Lest I throw one of my "little fits" (glad to hear how yet another person perceives me), I'll just say I disagree.

It would be awesome if "Parenthood" got nominated for any of the major categories.
