Post Star Trek: Enterprise- Not So Dead Yet
Grassroots fan campaigns are hoping to Save Enterprise by raising enough money to entice Paramount to produce another season. They plan to raise as much of the total season production cost of 36 million as possible. As of today, they have around 3.1 million dollars raised. This comes after three anonomous donors offered millions.

I must say I am impressed. I love the show, and will support them till the end. (Trekunited.com is doing this). Who else thinks this is freakisly unbelievable? Have fanboys ever raised millions to save a show? Not to mention last Friday's worldwide rallies, which had an estimated 800 Trekkers in LA.

Woah.

As soon as the media starts commenting on this news of over 3million, i'll post an article. There have been several dozen recently on the campaign and rally if anyone wants to see them.

What say you?

I cant believe anyone would pay that to save a poor show.
I mean...if Star Trek re-incarnated itself again it would probobly be better for fans and ratings; so why not let Enterbore die?

Now i can honestly see this happening if it was announced that Alias, Lost, Desperate Housewives or CSI were to be axed, but not Enterprise....

Star Trek means more than CSI or Lost or Desperate Housewives EVER will in terms of our culture, and I think this message from some of the multi-million dollar donors says it all:

"We think Star Trek and especially its latest incarnation, "Enterprise" is the kind of TV that should be aired more often. The people responsible at Paramount think this is just a show and we want to tell them, it is not. We are in the commercial space flight industry and would like to testify that at least one out of two of all the actual entrepreneurs involved in this industry has been inspired by Star Trek; and we are not only good at watching TV sci-fi , we are also good at writing checks, big checks. The people airing this kind of TV have a responsibility; inspiration. Star Trek has inspired us, and particularly Enterprise, with its superb theme song that tells so much about our struggle to move space travel forward and closer to the public, this inspiration is so self evident, that Virgin Galactic has ordered a 5-sub orbital ship fleet from Scaled Composites, a 100 million dollar investment, and the first one being built is going to be christened ‘VSS Enterprise.’ Now doesn’t that ring a bell in Paramount’s ears? Now, canceling the series so bluntly, for the sake of just ratings, tells very much about the kind of thinking going on inside Paramount. If we thought the same way, Paul Allen would have never funded the SpaceShipOne program. Sir Richard Branson would never have funded Virgin Galactic and Space Adventures would never have put two space tourists aboard the International Space Station. Instead, we would all be at home watching Survivor or some other reality TV show. Enterprise needs to be renewed, for the sake of fan loyalty, for being quality TV, for bringing imagination and hope for a better future to our homes, but over all that, for inspiring us so strongly that we have fought all our adult lives to bring that future closer to our children and to us."

There's a bit more here:

Take it as you wish. Just my opinion, and that of a few other million Trekkers (More than 3.5m watch the show- Paramount confirmed a while back that just as many watch weekend reruns on UPN, not to mention the fact that it is the second most downloaded show on the internet and one of the most TIVOed shows. You can thank a crappy timeslot for that honor. BUT ANYWAY.....)

I haven't watched Enterprise but I would love to see the trekkies make the 36mill mark. It would be amazing to see it happend and it's only star trek that can do it.

I just think its boring ; it goes way too much into character stuff rather than the whole point of the show - SCIFI. Its ratings are really quite horrible compared to the other shows...

The strange thing about the show to me was how they played it so corny, it was like something out of Galaxy Quest with those jumpsuit uniforms. I don't know why they didn't go for something more interesting, something fresh. And it just looked cheap, like they couldn't afford even to pay extras 10 dollars to walk down the hall in shots.

Some fans are a wee bit obsessive. I miss the hell out of X-Files, but I wouldn't donate money to fund a sequel to the first movie or anything. How come Trekkies can't wait for five years? Within that time, I'm sure there will be a new TV show, new comic book series, new movie, and maybe even a Saturday morning cartoon. They make it sound like Star Trek is dead forever. In case you didn't know, Star Trek is the James Bond of television. It never dies ever. I cannot judge completely, because maybe it's more for Enterprise, but I think it's more of just Trekkies wanting a Star Trek series than Enterprise itself.
