 Nikita (CW) | Season 1

So the show premieres tomorrow and it seems like it has a few interested parties around here. Early reviews that are up on Metacritic sound very promising - 7 reviews so far, 69/100 average. Though review from Slant sounds overly negative as it's the most negative one they ever gave that's up on Metacritic. Without it the average would be close to 80/100 I guess. I'll also keep track record of ratings in this first post just like I do with True Blood. SEASON 1 RATINGS1.01 Pilot3.570 million viewers :: 1.4 A18-49 1.02 2.03.195 million viewers :: 1.2 A18-49 1.03 Kill Jill3.154 million viewers :: 1.1 A18-49 1.04 Rough Trade2.682 million viewers :: 1.0 A18-49 1.05 The Guardian2.900 million viewers :: 1.1 A18-49

Its just that the CW stigma.. uggh Supernatural has been like my TOP 2 show each and every season since it started (granted that's a WB show, but still). And they finally managed to present a very decent series with The Vampire Diaries last season (haven't had a guilty pleasure series like this in years). I don't think CW would have such horrible series development if they didn't concentrate on young females. Every time they branched out a bit, like for instance with The Vampire Diaries or previously Reaper ( great reception from the critics), Aliens In America (also very critically acclaimed - just check out the Metacritic reviews) they'd manage to churn out a very enjoyable series. But every time they go after a show with beautiful white teens they shoot themselves in the foot. Last year's Melrose Place and The Beautiful Life were actually more watchable than their "hit" series Gossip Girl, 90210, but I guess even their target audience is tired of shows like that. I know it's hard for them to change their image, but it's their own fault. They need to start somewhere and this season seemed perfect for them. They had a lot of shows in development that don't fit the CW brand and one of them (Nomads) generated a lot of very positive buzz but everyone said it will be a hard pick-up on CW and that turned out to be true, despite the script and the pilot getting great early reviews. On the other hand Nikita is a good start for CW to branch out a bit. Last year they managed to get a genre show on its feet. If they manage to do the same with a spy series I'm hoping that next season they will go with even riskier moves and finally manage to do what the joining of WB and UPN promised - a network with a very nice mix of shows for everyone. They need to get at least 4-5 new shows each year to start replacing old WB/UPN shows that surprisingly still pull best ratings for the network (outside of their own TVD, but as I said it took them 3 years to finally have a hit shot, and not a PR "hit" show).

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
A good pilot. A bit of a mess though. The twist at the end does sum it up nicely, but still I have a feeling it could've been made more slicker and better paced. I was surprised by how dark the show actually is for CW standards. I'll continue to watch the show, but it has a long way to go to come close to the iconic La Femme Nikita show. That one was great.
Also why do they pronounce Nikita like Nikki-TAH! She sounds like a hooker rather than a dangerous spy.

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
You know, this is something I'd normally have been interested in watching, and decent reviews almost had me, but I just can't bring myself to watch it and it's mostly because of the lead. Maggie Q is really unappealing, IMO. At least in all of the ads I've seen. She just isn't attractive to me. Jennifer Garner was much sexier on ALIAS. I enjoy seeing females kicking ass, but I guess it depends on the female.
On a sidenote, I really enjoyed the Luc Besson movie it's based on. Never did watch the original series, or the remake of the original film with Bridget Fonda.

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
You should watch La Femme Nikita The Series. Alias would probably suck without it. It sets a lot of templates Alias later on used (sometimes to much better, sometimes to worse effects but all that is understandable).
Yeah I don't like Maggie Q either (but she's a bit more sexier than Mannifer Garner), but she was capable in the pilot episode. She's actually the most effective one in the cast. The weakest link is probably the guy who's playing Michael. He's just no good. Not only compared to Dupuis who made an iconic character IMHO, but he's not good even if I forget I've ever seen anything Nikita related.
If you do decide to watch the new Nikita, you should know it's probably more closer in tone to Alias than previous Nikita fares.

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
I thought Garner looked really hot in a lot of her outfits/disguises.
Is the guy you're talking about Shane West from Once & Again and A Walk To Remember? If so I'm not a fan of his either. I remember I used to like him back in the day on the ABC show but since then I've come to dislike him.

I didn't see Once & Again nor A Walk to Remember, but imdb says that Michael is played by Shane West. I don't believe I've ever seen him before. But based on what he showcased in this pilot he's a very bad actor.

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
I liked Alex far, far, far more than the wooden Nikita. But that probably comes down to the abilities of the actresses. Not that the chick that played Alex will ever win an Emmy or Oscar, but she wasn't flat like Maggie Q.
And I thought she held her own looks-wise. And omg, Shane West needs to die. I've always found him so creepy looking. Like a guy with date rape drugs that's gonna slip them into my Crystal Light.

Nikita is supposed to be wooden a bit though. No emotions, trained killer, etc... The story with Alex annoyed me a bit. I felt like it slowed down the pilot a lot. And the twist at the end was good, but I have a feeling they will handle it terribly in the following episodes.

Besides illegal downloads are very shaky terms. If you watch a show that your friend recorded does that mean you're watching illegal copies? Of course not. Why would the industry allow all these recording devices then? What you can "illegally" download are recordings people make and then upload. So is that really illegal? It's not like they take the episodes from online stores and then illegally distribute them. That would be illegal. But that's not what's happening.

One of my friends who lives a fair distance away has recorded Nikita and h Entourage as well. I may as well watch his crappy copies seeing that he offered.

Wasn't Alex's storyline in the pilot the one most like Nikita's? I've been both movies, the original and the remake with Bridget Fonda, and that's what I remember. I liked her. Maybe not her friends at the secret agent training place, but I liked Alex.

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
Actually, I do remember watching maybe two or three episodes of the 1990s cable TV cheesefest La Femme Nikita show.
My dad was a fan. It was okay. Is this show long for the world? I guess it's doing CW-good. The CW is so embarrassing, ya'll.
But fuck. I still watch 90210, but mostly really just out of loyalty to the epic ass original show. And Naomi is a pretty fun bitch..

Re: Nikita (CW) | Season 1
I followed up on 90210. Stopped watching after episode 12. The show is stuck in a rut. It's always the same. It takes them forever to advance the story.
So far the first episode had good ratings and CW will most certainly stuck with it for the whole season. It's not like they have good mid-season replacements if they even have any.
La Femme Nikita is a cheesefest??? Are you being for real? It's one of the bleakest and most serious shows I've ever seen.
