Are you kidding me, the Mets are a joke. At least the Yankees spending money went somewhere, but the Mets, over 100 million, and went nowhere. Over 100 million, and what do they get? No offense and the worst defense you will ever see? To be honest, I don't care much for them, since they are not in the same league.

I thought you were complining about the total $ spent for the higher salaried teams.

I expect teams like Angels, Dodgers, Red Soxs, Phillies and Yankees to spend $100 million cause of their high attendence and fanbase. I mean, you wouldn't expect teams like Kansas City or Pittsburgh to spend that kind of money. I am just complaining that $200 million is too much.

Which they did with Lugo and are trying to do this year with Lowell at 9 Million I heard! or even back in 2000, when the Red Sox signed Manny for 20 Million at 10 total years with options or the Arod 250/25 Million dollar deals...***** hate to tell you but these deals forced up salaries and made the Yankees #'s go up.

Okay, I got your point there, but they did spend half a billion on three players (Tex, CC and AJ), among various years, abiet.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Halladay is 1 year older than Lee.
Halladay is a 6 time all star. With 5 Cy Youngs Since 2002 Halladay had one season with less than 12 wins.
Lee is a 1 time all star. With 2 Cy Youngs Since 2003 Lee had two seasons with less than 12 wins.
They both have had only 2 seasons with 10+ losses.
How is Halladay NOT an upgrade?

How is Halladay NOT an upgrade? LOL. So what years were his 5 Cy Youngs! Try 1 in 2003!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and why no Cy Youngs in the last 6 years? and instead of going back 7 years - which no one cares about - try just 2008/2009 as in 2010, those are the only years that should be considered! As 3 years ago in baseball is too old to base anything on.

All we need is a left-handed reliever then the Angels have a complete team. so what do you think...are the Angels set in 2010 for a World Series run! If the rotation stays consistent throughout the year, then the Angels do have a chance. Seattle may give us a run for our money this time. Our offense/defense looks great (1B Morales, 2B Kendrick/Izturis, 3B Brandon Wood/Izturis, SS Aybar/Izturis, C Napoli/Mathis, RF Abreu, LF Hunter, LF Rivera, and DH Matsui), and rotation has alot of depth, with Weaver, Saunders, E. Santana, Kazmir all being #2 starters, and the 5th spot will go to Matt Palmer if we don't sign another arm (after all, he did get an 11-2 record with a 3.93 ERA in his rookie year), while in the BP, we still have young arms Bulger and Jespen (with his 90mph slider), closer Fuentes, and Scot Shields will return if he is healthy. We just need to be consistent the whole year. Haven't read the article yet but I saw this by Tim Brown, Yahoo Sports > Confidence or delusion? Angels feel fine By Tim Brown, Yahoo! Sports Thinking he is talking about all the people the Angels missed out on.

Anyone see this Selig committee about improving the game that everyone is on - managers, GMs even a reporter...one question, why not 1 umpire as umpiring is one of the biggest problems so they would be smart to get the view-point of an umpire at these meetings.
Just another example of f'ing idiots running the show...and Selig wanting to blow his horn before he leaves the games.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Heard the Lowell trade to Texas which I guess made sense for Texas with the $ Boston was going to send with Lowell.
But why doesn't Texas go after Vlad G for a 2 year deal as a DH.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
The Angels needed a bullpen, and they got one. They just signed Fernando Rodney to a 2 year $11 million deal. That will boost the setup man role, and emercency closer role if Fuentes flops. Along with Bulger, Jespen and Shields, we have lots of options for the 8th inning man.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Four years, $66 million. I'm not sure why the Sox weren't willing to budge six million higher. The only thing I can think of is that they're making space to land a bigger name, either sometime this year or next, but I don't think six million would've made a lot of difference.
Good move for the Mets, though I'm not sure how much of a good move it is for Bay. He's going to the team that hit the fewest home runs last year with 95, and he's going to a very pitcher friendly ballpark, unlike Fenway which is a launching pad in left and in right. I expect his average to rise a little since he's heading over the National League, but his power numbers will drop.
