 Re: 2009 College Football Season
Florida "escapes" again. Spurrier can't get anything done in that ridiculous university. He needs to move on to a place where he can actually win and beat top ranked teams.
Alabama rolled, Texas rolled and TCU rolled.
I was hoping Iowa would win and they made a good comeback but came up short. I'm still amazed that PSU blew those two games at home. How can they lose in that stadium at home?

 Re: 2009 College Football Season
Could Texas pass Florida this week? I still think Florida will get beat by Alabama. With the Pac 10 I think it is between Oregon and Stanford. Oregon has to win the next two games or else Stanford will win the Pac 10. Not sure the last time that happened, probably when Bill Walsh was their head coach.

hopefully both Auburn and Florida State upset Bama & the Gators. that way Texas and TCU can be 1 & 2 and both undefeated.

 Re: 2009 College Football Season
Impressive wins by TCU and Boise, less impressive wins by Cincinatti and Florida.
Florida should lose the #1 ranking, Stanford deserves to be in the Top 20 at least and Boise should but won't leapfrog Cincinatti. Interesting conundrum: With TCU and Boise maybe both in the Top 5 when all is said and done, will Boise get a big Bowl game? They should give it to them since being blown out by a Texas or Alabama team will be the only thing to shut up Non-BSC-supporters like me. Problem for them: What if Boise would win this game AGAIN? I'd say they are too afraid for that to happen and chicken out

So the Big 10, Pac 10 and Big 12 are awful.
No wonder why TCU/Boise are ranked so high!

 Re: 2009 College Football Season
I'd say this year the conferences rank this way. SEC, Pac-10, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East.

Lets compare the conferences in the top 25 Big 12 3 SEC 3 (although all 3 are in the top 10) ACC 5 Pac 10 4 Big 10 4 Big East 2 WAC 3 Problem for Pac 10 is they don't have a dominant team this year. They are a balanced league, they have 4 teams with 7 wins. Now you could make the argument the ACC is the best conference. They have two very good teams in Georgia Tech and Clemson.

ACC is solid. Big 12 South is good, North is garbage. Big 10 is garbage. Big East is ok. Mountain West is ok. Pac 10 is garbage. SEC is really good.

I was reading espn today and was surprised to read that OSU might have a chance to go to a BCS game which would be an unbelievable achievement and a surprising one too.

 Re: 2009 College Football Season
Quote: But no one. NO ONE exemplifies scheduling cowardice quite like the Florida Gators. Their out of conference schedule looks like this: Charleston Southern (6-5 FCS), Troy (8-3),Florida International (3-8) and Florida State (6-5). Every one of those games was (or will be) a home game, and the first three were all wins. Florida State shouldn’t really count in terms of scheduling cowardice because the Gators play them every year. Troy is also a defensible game because they are definitely one of the better teams…in the Sun Belt Conference.
In fact, since the start of the 2000 season (10 years), the Gators have played 34 out-of-conference games, and not counting the Florida State series (five away games), the Gators have played exactly one out-of-conference road game (at Miami in 2003…a Florida loss). Even six total away games in 34 out-of-conference games is embarrassing. Especially considering that all of those “away games” took place within the state of Florida.
More to the point: Florida has played as many different major-conference, non-SEC teams in 10 years as TCU has played in 2009 alone.
That Florida schedule includes two MAC teams (Ball State, Eastern Michigan), five different Sun Belt teams (Middle Tennessee, Louisiana-Monroe,Florida International , Florida Atlantic and Troy), three FCS schools (The Citadel, Florida A&M, Charleston Southern), one school that was transitioning to FBS when Florida played them (Western Kentucky), three WAC schools (San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, Hawaii), four C-USA schools (Marshall, UCF, UAB, Southern Miss), two ACC schools (Florida State, Miami), and one Mountain West school (Wyoming).
The conferences missing from that schedule are: Big East, Big Ten, Big XII, and the Pac-10. In other words, the other BCS automatic qualificationconferences.
No random home and home with USC like Ohio State had, or a series with Ohio State like Texas had. Nothing. Just a bunch of non-qualifying schools, and not even one of the good teams from the Mountain West a.k.a. the good non-AQ conference. No Utah, BYU or TCU. Hell, not even Air Force. Just Wyoming, who finished 4-7 in 2005 when Florida played them. http://rumorsandrants.com/2009/11/the-paper-champs.html

 Re: 2009 College Football Season
I like that evidence in the above post. That's a history lesson about Florida that sports commentators either don't want to talk about or don't know the facts about it. Essentially what they've been doing all this time is playing a late 90s/early 00s Kstate non conference slate full of cupcakes. Now, back when F. State was actually good that was a marquee game but when was the last time FSU was a top 10 team going against Florida?
