Post Re: Jim's 2009 Heisman Watch
alright wanted to wait until after the Ole Miss game to see how Snead did. The rankings will now begin

WEEK 1

1. Colt McCoy - QB - Texas: I don't think there is any doubt about this. Out of the 3 big QB's last year, McCoy had the best starting game in my opinion. It also looks like the Longhorns have finally found a consistent running game which would help McCoy throw the ball but watch his carries get cut.

2. Tim Tebow - QB - Florida: Tebow didn't have a great first game but he really didn't need to. The Gators are working with some new offensive weapons and will probably take a few plays to get used to each other. Tebow is still probably the man to beat.

3. Jahvid Best - RB - Cal: Talk about running with a purpose. If he would have got more carries he would have went past the 200 yard mark no problem. Could be the most well rounded backs currently but needs to touch the ball more if he wants a chance.

4. Dez Bryant - WR - Oklahoma State: Dez didn't get a lot of catches but he sure did make the few count. The touchdown grab will be one of the better catches of the season and he has great chemistry with Robinson. It'll be tough to win it as a wide receiver though.

5. Daryll Clark - QB - Penn State: He's defiantly improved his throwing arm that's for sure. I wondered if he could improve as a passer and after week one it looks like he has. I don't expect him to be throwing 300 yard games every week but with the talent around him, he could be a sleeper.

6. Todd Reesing - QB - Kansas: One of the most underrated QB's in college football continues to shine. The 3rd year starter kicked off the season with 2 td's and has a very talented KU team to surrounding him.

7. Jacquizz Rodgers - RB - Oregon State: Rodgers could end up with the most touches out of any running back this season. He was one of the few with over 250 last season. He put up over 100 yards and 3 td's in his first game of the year. We'll see if he can get enough publicity though being in Oregon State.

8. Zac Robinson - QB - Oklahoma State: How can you not have both players in the best one-two combo in America on this list? Zac threw 2 touchdowns but really needs to work on his accuracy if he wants a shot at moving up the board.

9. Joe McKnight - RB - USC: Looks like USC has finally found their feature back for the season. McKnight tore it up the first game and if he can get the touches, he could do a lot of damage this year.

10. Jordan Shipley - WR - Texas: Shipley had a fantastic year last year and another season of building chemistry with McCoy should do nothing but help him. He had a huge first game and should continue to excel.

Todd and Jacquizz need to be undefeated to have a chance and that's not happening. Joe McKnight is just one of many USC running backs, so his numbers will be muted. Jordan Shipley is a very good WR but not even the best one in the country and Colt is on his team.

WEEK 3

1. Tim Tebow - QB - Florida: And he's back on top. Didn't have a great game yesterday but there really isn't anybody jumping out right now. For the season so far he has 540 yards passing with 5 tds and 3 rushing tds.

2. Jahvid Best - RB - Cal: Most exciting player in football right now? I'd go with yes. The kid has been on fire so far this year and with Cal being as good as they are, he's going to get some coverage. he ran for 5 td's against Minnesota this weekend and has 8 for the year. He might be the best bet to knock Tebow off the podium.

3. Daryll Clark - QB - Penn State:Quietly putting up some fantastic numbers. Over 750 yards passing with 8 tds. he needs to limit the turnovers though. We'll see how he looks when he goes against some quality opponents.

4. Colt McCoy - QB - Texas: He had a rough game against Tech, I don't think anyone will deny that. He also hasn't played that great this season period. Only has 2 more td's than interceptions and is averaging less than 2 yards a carry. Hopefully whatever is going on can be fixed.

5. Dez Bryant - WR - Oklahoma State: Needed to have a big game after the ugly loss to Houston and he did. Over 150 yards receiving with 2 tds. Still, it'll be very tough for him to win due to his position.

6. Case Keenum - QB - Houston: And our biggest mover on the board is Keenum. All the kid seems to do is put up numbers, and big ones at that. With 7 tds and 725 yards passing he has shown he can throw the ball. And when you look at his past numbers you know he'll continue to throw the ball.

7. Todd Reesing - QB - Kansas: The little guy continues to put up big numbers. Threw for his first 300 yard game of the year and added 3 touchdowns. He's over 800 yards for the year and 6 tds.

8. Jacquizz Rodgers - RB - Oregon State: He's currently have a very up and down year. He's getting his touches but he's not making the most of it that's for sure. A 5.5 average is solid but when you think Heisman, you think bigger than that. His 5 tds do help his case though.

9. Ryan Mallet - QB - Arkansas: Only has the #1 Passer Rating in the nation right now. Everyone knew that he'd get his throws and he's making the most of it. So far he's been consistent with 6 tds and no interceptions. Odds of him winning this year are very slim.

10. Michael Floyd - WR - Notre Dame: 27.5 yards per catch. That is unheard of. He kid can make big plays with his size and speed and is looking to be a huge target for the Irish. He has over 350 yards and 5 touchdowns. It's made Clausen look a lot better then he really is.

Falling out of Rankings: Zac Robinson, Joe McKnight, Jordan Shipley

Pretty accurate top 5 imo. I believe Floyd broke his collarbone, so he is pretty much out of it.

cals coachs have essentially taken best out of the top 10. though at this point in 2007 mcfadden was thought to be out of it as well.

Well when you disappear in your 2 biggest games... you kind of take yourself out of the running.

best had 2 carries in the 2nd and 3rd quarters tonight that came from something other than the wild cat :er: . that clown of a qb they have in riley kept audibling out to a pass, which were going incomplete. this was the kind of game best should have gotten 30-35 touches with the qb throwing it 20-25 times, but instead best got 15 and his qb threw it 40 times. not gonna work. granted as the commentators pointed out, on every play best was at tb and riley wa sunder center, there were atleast 9 men in the box, in several cases 10, so yeah, he isnt gonna do anything facing that type of defense.

still quite easily the drafts best running back (and probably in the nation, only competition might be ingram), though his title as "nations best player" may be up in the air.

Week 5

1. Tim Tebow - QB - Florida: Tebow stays atop the leaderboard at least one more week. If he is out for an extended period of time we could see him fall in the coming weeks. Tebow is ranked 3rd in Passer Rating and continues to be a duel threat.

2. Colt McCoy - QB - Texas: And he's back. After struggling at the beginning of the season it appears that he is finally starting to settle in. He lit up UTEP for 3 touchdowns but as a whole he is still throwing too many picks. Also, what happened to his rushing yards this year? They're non-existent.

3. Tony Pike - QB - Cincinnati: Never would have thought that a Cincy QB would be this high up here in my lifetime but here we are. The kid can throw the ball and Cincinnati is dominant right now. We'll see how good Pike is when he faces some real teams but so far, he is up here.

4. Jimmy Clausen - QB - Notre Dame: I wanted to see just how good he was without Floyd in the line up before putting him up here and he showed me he is very good. He's got the top passer rating in the nation and looks like he can control a game. If he keeps putting up numbers and Tebow is out a few games, we could see a new leader.

5. Toby Gerhart - RB - Stanford: We have a new leading running back in the race. Gerhart has ran Stanford to a 4-1 record and if they keep winning he could stay in the race. However, I highly doubt that Stanford will be able to continue their lucky run.

6. Todd Reesing - QB - Kansas: He continues to throw the ball and continues to get no respect. He's on pass for over 3400 yards and 25 td's and Kansas is still undefeated. If Kansas can make a miracle run as they did 2 years ago he could get some play again this year.

7. Casey Keenum - QB - Houston: Houston lost but to no fault of Keenum's. He put up 5 more tds with 536 yards. He's totals are now 1700 yards and 13 touchdowns. The only way for Casey to win it was to go undefeated though or if a lot of big names fall along the way. One option is now gone, we'll see the other.

8. Ryan Mallet - QB - Arkansas: After struggling badly against a tough Alabama team, he came back big against A&M with 4 tds and 270 yards. The only way Mallet gets any attention though is if Arkansas can start winning though and that'll be tough in the SEC.

9. Jahvid Best - RB - California: Talk about just completely disappearing in your big games. 0 touchdowns and 0 100 yard games in the past two games = 2 losses. California is done as a contender now and Best is probably out of the race. He's no McFadden.

10. Golden Tate - WR - Notre Dame: One ND receiver falls out of the race, one jumps into it. Floyd is out and Tate came up big against Washington with over 240 yards receiving and 1 td. It probably doesn't matter the numbers he puts up though, most credit will go to Clausen

Falling out of the Rankings: Michael Floyd, Jacquizz Rodgers, Dez Bryant, Daryll Clark

mallet has more yards, touchdowns, and less interceptions than Forcier. Also Forcier is a freshman and no freshman will appear on my list.

Because he'll die and be resurrected?

If Tebow plays, it could ruin his life. LSU's defense could literally KILL him.

Forcier has 3 game winning/tying drives and is the heart of a Michigan team that actually wins games, unlike Arkansas.
