You forget that these birthers have been around since before the election. At the time, they claimed there was no birth certificate. So Obama finally said "Fine, here you go."

They then backtracked and said "Oh, shit, there really is a birth certificate! Uh, uh.... well, it isn't the original that is kept locked up!"

So the Governor of Hawaii and the keeper of records (both of whom are Republicans who campaigned for McCain) said "It's there, and we've seen it, and he was born here."

So the birthers now say "Well, uh, uh, these guys are obviously part of the conspiracy!"

It's ridiculous, and I agree that it is based in racism -- these people can't believe a black man actually won the Presidency (and by a large margin). It's can't be real! It's like a nightmare! So they grab onto anything that can possibly make their world make sense again. He's not really an American! Yeah, that's it!

Exactly; they'll find something else. The claims these loons make on one of the political boards I am on is amazing -- "Why won't he release his kindergarten records?" (Because the school didn't save them for anyone. No one who went to kindergarten there has any records). "Why won't the doctor who delivered him testify?" (Well, because unless the doctor was 20 year old or less when he delivered Obama, he's probably dead by now even if he remembered one child out of the hundreds he probably delivered.) "What about the Presidential Order he signed limiting what private records he has to produce from the White House? What's he hiding?" (Nothing, the Order rescinded Bush's, which hid even MORE, and replaced it with the one that had been in effect since Reagan)

There are other claims they are making that are just as silly, especially because they have NO evidence whatsoever to support their claim.

I especially loathe the people like Lou Dobbs/Berg who are doing this for ratings and web traffic and not because the truly believe Obama to be a Kenyan. I think people like them are even worse than the average fuckstain who laps-up their drivel and actually believes the bunk.

Kenya was a Dominion the date this certificate was allegedly issued and would not become a republic for 8 months.

Mombasa belonged to Zanzibar when Obama was born, not Kenya.

Obama's father's village would be nearer to Nairobi, not Mombasa.

The hospital is Coast Provincial General Hospital (sometimes said to be Coast Province General Hospital), not Coast General Hospital.

It was called the "Central Nyanza District," not Nyanza Province. The regions were changed to provinces in 1970.

The certificate has the number 47O44-- 47 is Obama's age when he became president, followed by the letter O (not a zero) followed by 44--he is the 44th president. (It's amazing! His birth certificate predicted it all!)

The name of the registrar is "EF Lavender." EF Lavender (a/k/a "Earth Friendly Lavender" is a laundry detergent.

Here's what I don't understand about calling Obama a socialist or radical commie lefty liberal: he's against single payer health care, he's increased the defense budget, he's against gay marriage, against drug legalization, not strongly pro-EFCA, his cabinet is full of warhawks and corporatists and Republicans, he refuses to investigate the previous administration's crimes, 42% of the stimulus bill he signed and pushed for was in tax cuts, and he continues to try and work with the Republicans. None of that is exactly Kucinich or Nader-like. Why haven't these wackos coming out of the woodwork been as passionately against any president since...I don't know, FDR in terms of pinkodom? I could argue Nixon's policies were to the left of Obama.
