Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
I'm still not sure about it. I've had the same name for close to eight years now and never really felt the need to change it. This morning for some reason though I felt the need to be "radical" and drop the Bond reference.
I'm testing it out for a little bit, but I kind of like it.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Who was the guy that I was discussing the red sox pitching with? Well clearly not best and with todays bombing. Think most red sox starters era are over 5.
And penny prob is the best right now.
Anyway going forward. What do you think they should do as they are basically tied with the yanks for 1st.
Also what is your opinion on the offense.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Speaking of Red Sox, did you fans watch yesterday's game. Once again, it shows that Beckett is an overgrown jerk. At the beginning of the year, he throws at Abreu's head and still argues about it like a tough guy, causing the benches to clear. Yesterday, he argued that a called ball was a strike by saying "God----it!!! That was a f---in strike!" (yes, we can clearly hear it, uncensored). You can argue, but cussing at the Umpire is not going to solve anything (Varitek protected him by taking the fall and getting himself ejected). I'd be surprized it Beckett doesn't get suspended, again!
BTW, the pitch was clearly a strike.

Ten years its been since we've last made the playoffs. I don't care if we get out in the ALDS, I just want to get in. The Rangers have been winning most of it's games because they had an easy schedule (especially in the crosstown interleague, which forced them to play inferior teams like the Astros). After this weekend, they will have the challenge to face the Yankees, then Boston, then Toronto, then the Dodgers, while the Angels get to play inferior teams like Tampa Bay, and San Diego (I wouldn't call the Tigers inferior, but the Angels tend to kick their butt). If things go according to plan, then the Angels have a chance to catchup again.

At the beginning of the year, he throws at Abreu's head and still argues about it like a tough guy, causing the benches to clear. Or the benches cleared because tensions were high (especially on the Angels side) since it was a day or two after the death of Nick Adenhart. Remember, the Angels weren't mad at Beckett. They were mad at the umpires. Beckett was the tipping point. Any other time the benches wouldn't have cleared and it would've been between Abreu and Beckett. And what's an overgrown jerk? Is he considered to be an overgrown jerk because the Angels were inferior (smaller) to him? Quote: Yesterday, he argued that a called ball was a strike by saying "God----it!!! That was a f---in strike!" (yes, we can clearly hear it, uncensored). BTW, the pitch was clearly a strike. Swearing is a normal part of adult conversation, especially in a competitive environment. You can make a much better argument by saying that arguing will get you nowhere instead of swearing, but that's really pointless. Athletes will argue until the end of sports. Also what is your opinion on the offense. It's weird. Right now the rotation is underperforming. Everyone has shown signs of improvement except for Dice-K. The big inning is what's killing the likes of Wakefield and Lester right now. And yet, we're basically tied for first. They shouldn't do anything. The pitching is going to come around. Like you said... Grill wrote: yup, I am fine with saying he is still #1 but still the season is not even 1/3 of the way over so I want to see everyones record after a full year. Can the kid hold up for the year? ...we're not even a 1/3 of the way through the year. As for the offense it's fine except for Ortiz. As I said before I think you put up with him until the deadline. Then you go out and try to get another DH, IF AND ONLY IF, Ortiz hasn't shown signs of improvement. Going out and trading for Nick Johnson right now is not the answer.

Angels have no chance of catching up if they keep losing to them. They may be able to become even with them, but then Rangers sweep them and they're down 3 games again. fyi, how many games have the Angels played without their biggest hitter, Vlad? He will make a big difference when he comes back.

Notice that both Z. Greinke and Santana have a chance to get the pitching triple crowns right now. Both are very close to leading in all 3 categories.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Wow, what an incredible game. Probably the best come from behind victory from the Angels I have ever seen. Behind 8-1, Abreu got an RBI single, Vladdy got a sacrifice fly, then Torii hit's his 12th homerun of the season (All Star anyone) to make it 8-5. Then down 8 to 6 in the bottom of the ninth, Yes, Vladdy got that crucial double in the ninth to make it a one run game, which the Mariners Intentionally walked Torii to load the base, but it didn't pay off, as Rivera walked in a run, and Morales got the base hit for the win. And with Texas losing today, could this be a sign of things to come with our offense finally coming through.

On the Dodgers, they only had to fly overnight after a Sunday night game, (pretty f'ed up schedule) and they didn't start 3 out of their 8 regular starters, so I don't have a problem with a 3-2 loss where they had the winning runs on base in the 9th inning. and o yah, they had a 9 game lead in the division...so again, can't be too upset as playoffs here we come.

You scored both runs in the 9th against the worst closer in baseball.

Yes because Haren pulled himself out of the game.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
The Angels offense is now taking off. Figgins is now batting .300 again, which still makes him the bonafide lead off hitter, with Abreu hitting homeruns, and Vladdy bringing his batting average up in the .270 range, and Hunter still hitting for the clutch. This shows that if pitching to Abreu, Vladdy or Hunter, you better make sure that Figgins is not on base. The pitching staff is improving too. Yesterday, Weaver got 10K's (a new career high for him) and now has the third lowest ERA among starters after Greinke and Santana. I am glad the Angels won the series against Toronto, which is very hard to do. A sign of things to come perhaps.
FYI, Angels closer Fuentes just got his 500 career strikeout today.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Also, congrats to Randy Johnson for getting his 300th career win today, becoming only the 24th person to do so.
I find it funny that when history is made, there is not a packed house (I see no more than 10,000 tops at Nats Stadium). Just like when Texas put 30 runs on the board at Camden Yards, there were about 11,000 people in there. I find it sad when history is made, there are too many empty seats. Not only that, but they do it not in their teams homes. At least when K-rod broke the saves record, there was a sold out crowd to see it.
