Well its a one year deal, but he keeps pitching like that, Smoltz will be taking his place in the rotation. The rest of the rotation has been fine. Lester is pitching like last year, Wakefield has been great. Beckett really only had one bad game. Masterson has been a huge surprise, too bad they can't find a way to keep him in the rotation.

well isn't Smoltz also a question mark?

Yep, and if he fails Masterson goes right back in.

Masterson is dirty, he should just stay in there for Penny.

Here comes another air commentary (whatever it means).

Nice, the Angels get their first sweep. This was pretty much a pitchers duel today, with Loux getting his first win, despite facing the superior Uehura from the Orioles (but wow, he took a big shot from Mathews hit). Fuentes gets a 1-2-3 inning to get the save. Hunter gets his 8th homerun, wow, look out Bonds. Morales hits his 3rd this year, signally a break out year for him (he played second fiddle to Kotchman and Teixara at first base the last couple of years). Interesting to note that this is the 8th consecutive game with at least one homerun from an Angel. It could be a franchise record in homruns, which we have 19 already in April (which is at 236 in 2000). We now have a 3 game winning streak, with momentum going into the Yankees games, which I am sure we will win at least 3 to put us at .500 (we are 9-11 now).

On the pitching, questions on the relievers, esp Paps as he doesn't seem to be used everytime, and then there is Lopez, Saito and Okie???

on Beckett, wouldn't say just 1 bad game, as over 4 runs in 3/4 games and two of those games were just 6 innings.

and Lester who has 1 good year - 16-6, has been hit hard in 3/5 games. still alot to prove.

....so think there are enough questions on the pitching....

and what happens when Dice comes back....

Totonto facing Zack Greinke with his 0 ERA in 4 games if the rain ever stops. Should be interesting.

* well to me Smoltz has a pretty long road to show he will be OK but how many starts do you want the Red Sox to judge him.

CLEVELAND (AP)—John Smoltz, recovering from shoulder surgery last June, will not throw batting practice Thursday, Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.

* Also based on him having surgery back then and not being ready to mid May, wonder how this 1 year signing will turn out.

They aren't paying him much so it won't hurt. I give him a couple of starts to see how he is. I trust the Red Sox judgment on it.

Is Beckett really fine as after a great first games, he has been hit hard since giving up 4 or more runs in his last 4 games.

He just doesn't seem right?

1 run in 7 innings
4 in 6
4 in 6
8 in 5
and tonight, 4 in the 3rd already

The streak came to an end for my Angels today. I kinda knew we would be lucky to win this game with Burnett pitching, and Ortega not proven that he has it. But we made it close as this game was back and forth. Hopefully we can get the Yankees tomorrow, with Weaver pitching.

Yes, I'm too ashamed to talk about the Red Sox, who despite having an inconsistent pitching staff for the first month of the season, are only .5 game out of the division lead.

Yeah, we really suck.

If they're still pitching like this in the middle of June then I will become concerned. Until then I guess I'll just have to deal with them being in the top 10 in terms of ERA, and having one of the best records in baseball. I don't know how I'll do it though. I guess I'll just have to gut it out.

Just marking what there ERA's/status are.

just checking again. Not very Good. Boy am I good at rating talent or some major question marks.

and again, my past comments were only on the breakdown of the pitching staff!!!! Remember!

but on the team, you are sure lucky for early great starts by Youkillis and Bay
