Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
I just realized Jesse Litsch is the Jays' #2 pitcher year. Jesse. Fucking. Litsch.
Well at this point I'd almost welcome a 50 win season or something, even though the draft doesn't mean as much as in other sports, I think I'd welcome the change. Like every season the last 10 years has been EXACTLY THE SAME!!! I'm sick of 75-85 win years where they present a couple weeks of cocktease but never really go anywhere except when the games are meaning. F baseball

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
ugh, a 12+ E.R.A. for Cliff Lee this spring. I know it's only spring training, but that's pretty alarming. I can only hope he's just phoning it in at this point, since he know's he's the #1 starter. On the flipside, the Indians offense looks ready to go, and it's great to see Travis Hafner hitting again...two home runs in as many games.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Wow, the last two games were very close. Tonights game had one great ending that the Angels almost lost. Behind 4 to 5, two men on base (first and second) and one out, Izturis hit a roller down the first base line, but got thrown out, then Willits was running for home, and it looked like he was out and the game would be over, but the catcher dropped the ball and the Angels tied the game. Then Bobby Wilson hit a single and it brought Sean Rodriguez home from second and won the game. So the Angels won the game because of that error by the Padres catcher.
So in the end, the Angels won 26 Spring Training games, tying the record that the Florida Marlins set in 1997. Well, the season is coming up, although the one thing I am worried about is the pitching staff. With Lackey, Santana, and Saunders on the disabled list till may, we have to rely on our offense and minor league pitchers (and Brian Fuentes is no K-Rod when it comes to closing). And the lineup for the first 7 games (4 with Oakland, and 3 with, gasp, Boston) will be tough indeed. If we can win half of our games in April, then we can be in good shape until our pitching staff is back in shape.

Good job Bud. This is what happens when you open the season a week later than you're suppose to.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
The Texas Rangers had the highest batting average in the majors last year, and were strong in Spring Training. Heck, even the Angels struggle against them occasionally. However, as strong as their offense is, they usually suck at defense, and their bullpen is atrocious. Only if your favorite team can even hit the ball, then they could challenge them for once.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Adam Lind + Travis Snider = ftw
I can already feel it, the Jays offense is going to wake up and be awesome this year while the pitching fails. We'll win 80 games and JP will say he likes the look of next year with everyone healthy. FML. Or just fuck the AL East and the commisionor for having four playoff teams and no salary cap

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Great Start by the Angels.
Bobby Abreu gets a single on his very first at bat as an Angel, and he also has the longest current MLB streak with 13 straight opening days with a hit.
Vladdy is keeping his Batting Average up, going 2 for 4, including an RBI. Rivera also went 2-4.
Great Homerun by Kendrick (Mike predicted that this year should get a new record for cumulative homruns, which is at 224 BTW), which makes up for the error he committed. Overall good start for the offense, getting 9 hits.
But most of all, great pitching by the pitching staff, with Saunders pitching only a 3 hitter, and the bullpen, who are still some of the best in the major leagues, not allowing anymore hits, and Brain Fuentes getting the job done with three routine outs (including getting his former teammate, Holliday, oh the irony, to a flyout) to get the save.
Also, great defense by Figgins and Mathis (who even picked off a attempt steal from the A's). What surprizes me is that with the A's having a great offense, why couldn't they get on the board. Oh well, who cares. It looks like the pitching staff could do well without Lackey, Santana or Escobar if this keeps up. Let's see if Mosley, Loux and Jespen can keep this up.
