 Tom Daschle withdraws; who should replace him? I'm torn on this one. I'm not a huge fan of Daschle and this rather significant faux pax of not paying $100K in taxes not only is bad legally, but really bad politically, for a number of reasons.
But I take some analysts word for it that he's the best candidate for the role of HHS secretary, and it may an overreach to exclude him over the tax scandal.
I lean against his confirmation, but I'd be interested in other opinions.
In other news, Eric Holder has been confirmed as AG.

Re: Should Tom Daschle be confirmed? Yes, and he will be I'm sure. Obama + Senate Finance Committee = Win.
What he did was wrong, and he has apologized rather than trying to overexplain why. I don't think we can really ask for too much more. And while it may seem a little irresponsible or whatever, I really think we should just move on, get these people confirmed barring any severe problems, and try to resolve things as soon as possible.

Re: Should Tom Daschle be confirmed? Good for him, and Obama. Should have done that from the jump, but better now than never. As Groucho said, he's certainly qualified, but you can't put someone evading 100k worth of taxes in your administration.

He's a remarkable leader and organizer. The Dems owe him in ways that are beyond measure thanks to his strategies over the past 4 years. And he just left the DNC. I'm not sure the stars could be better aligned.

Surprised Daschle withdrew as he would have been confirmed. And I'm sure he would have been great in the position.
This make THREE Tax Issues with nominations. A bit weird so many related problems have occured with Obama's picks. Vetting process hole?

Ironically, it was the Obama team that first flagged the tax discrepancy. I think they didn't realize just how bad it was. Obama has come out and admitted it was a screw up on his part.
