You know, in that article it also mentioned interim leader in Norway was gay. I think I might have to return to the "World Power" thread and give a shout out to Scandanavian countries and/or(?) Iceland. There's a huge group of sleeper-cell nations right there, too!

I say we will have a transexual president before all of that!

No seriously. Indian is a possibility but I certainly hope not because Jindall is not a good choice for president and he really is the only current contender for the presidency. I would say female because there is a fast growing constituancy in plolitics and many who take on platforms that isn't just womens rights.....Sort of like how Obama's main platform is not civil rights.

You also forgot legal naturalized citizen you know like the governor of California. Highly unlikely but you never know.

Latino is always in the Cards unless you mean like stereotypical cartoon latino then never.

I am going to have to go with Female.

There are more women in positions of government now (senators, governors, etc) than anything else, so bet on that just based on statistics.

Not unless they change the Constitution!

Probably a female as far as non-white old guy candidates would go.

While Hillary didn't win, she did pave the way for women in the future I believe. The entire DEM Primary opened many doors. Part of the reason people who were complaining and wouldn't shut up once we hit the half way point for it to be over annoyed me.

Not going to throw out names though, except I'm sure it's not going to be Condi. She has said so many times she has no interest, she was part of the Bush Admin., and she's very awkward.

Condi also more or less admitted on The View that she voted for Obama (it will be in her book)which will probably not go over so well with the Republican party.

It's going to be difficult for a female president anytime soon though, soon meaning the next 2/3 elections I think.

There's Elizabeth Dole again, but she's just too old now. And no other female in politics today has anywhere close to the name, or the female support that Clinton had.

Here is an interesting gallup poll from 2000.

More Consensus Concerning Most Admired Woman
Americans are in more agreement about the woman they most admire. First Lady and Senator-Elect Hillary Clinton is by far the most frequently named woman, with 19% of all votes. Behind Clinton are talk show host and magazine publisher Oprah Winfrey and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, named by 4% each. Next are Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, with 3% of the votes, and former presidential candidate Elizabeth Dole and former First Lady Barbara Bush, each with 2%. Women who received 1% were: Poet Maya Angelou, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Queen Elizabeth II, Tipper Gore, and New Jersey Governor Christine Whitman.

Christine Whitman, as far as any possible female candidates in the near future, is probably the most likely if it were to ever happen. And she won't have the Bush Admin factor holding her back as she had disputes with them back in 2003 and resigned. And she's a moderate REP, so she might possibly be a candidate, the change, something new, candidate REPS could get behind.

Of course, I'm doubting it right now, but she's a possibility in the near future at least.

Obama had no "name" or support two years ago, and he did OK. A lot can happen in just a few years. Nobody had heard of Sarah Palin really until last summer, and now many Republicans consider her the front runner. People can come from nowhere to prominence very quickly in politics.

There are some very good women in politics who I would support in 2016 (after Obama's two terms). Clair McKaskill, for instance, I like quite a bit.

Yes, though Obama became the face of a political movement, a very successful movement. Those don't happen often. So one happening so soon again I think is unlikely, which is why I focused more on possible names that are a bit known right now rather than unknowns who could come out of nowhere.

Of course, it's politics, who knows what could happen.

Eh, I'm pretty sure the Republicans screwed Sarah Palin, and she herself. She was thrown into this huge election as an unknown and could not handle it. I think she's only seen as the front runner by some because she, by default now, actually is a known name now. I'm betting she fades away as the next election takes place, and someone else steps up for the REPS.

I agree. I think she'll run and embarass herself and not last through the first few primaries.

And of course that is alwasy possible, if unlikely. I doubt any such movement would get support from both party today and I have a feeliong many democrats would be against ti today.

However 20 years ago I would also imagine such a measure getting more support from democrats and facing feverish revolt from republicans

Yeah, and also adding to her "front runner" status is the lack of any other possible REP candidates. At least possible names the general public have actually heard. I really don't think you could find anyone who doesn't know who Sarah Palin now and when asked "Who do you think will run for President in 2012?", it's obvious the average Joe is going to name Palin because they can't name hardly anyone else.

The REPS really shouldn't be worrying about getting back in the White House in 2012 though. They lost in a landslide, and not just the White House. Really don't see how the entire party can regroup in such a short amount of time. They'll have to settle for just an average candidate much like the DEMS did in 2004 (though that election was winable) and figure out something for 2016. Assuming Obama doesn't fuck up majorly.

The documentary Media Malpractice is supposed to have an interesting look at the Sarah Palin machine.

If by interesting you mean hilariously drenched in shite then yes. Also holding Iceland up as some sort of beacon of progress is rather odd considering the country is now a bankrupt mess.
