I made it only as far as Mata's post. I can't tell if everyone is being serious. I didn't change my name to occupy Filmo's name, rather, just to acknowledge how much I like his character. Added stuff on the back, kept my usual avatar, etc.

Is this really bugging you people? Because I was only doing it as a sort of 'thank-you,' to him, not as anything else.

I have no problem changing it back if people like, since it takes me on average three attempts just to log-in (being the ridiculous creature-of-habit that I am, I always forget about not putting in my usual screen name).

It doesn't bug me... I figured out who everyone was within reading like 1 of their posts, the post counts gave it away and then after at the new names were solidified. The real trick would be if me and Chip changed and then switched our location and signatures and etc., because we have the same posts. Actually that's not a bad idea...

You really aren't the person in question here. You rarely if ever change your name, and an occasional switch is fine.

What's in question here is more the people who constantly change names, multiple times each year. It becomes almost impossible for the casual observer to know who is who, and considering such a large part of this forum is recognizing familiar faces from years past, it destroys a part of what this site is about.

It really shouldn't matter who wrote what post. If anything, people not knowing who wrote what would prevent fights because then people couldn't attack certain posters all the time.

You're right. It doesn't matter who writes what. It matters that some peoples posts are just stupid no matter what...

Everything should be done in moderation. The ability to change names is something I think the forum should have, with limitations.

There is no good reason that someone needs to change their name more than two times a year, none. It's a hassel for the casual user, it's a pain for the admins, and there isn't any reason why a restriction of 1 name change every 6 months wouldn't be a happy medium.

imho, the constant name changes weaken the primary strength of this (or any virtual forum) - - the experience of community. With no physical presence to identify our fellow members, we depend to a large extent on usernames and/or avatars to provide continuity to our KJ communal experience.

Perhaps one workaround would be requiring the member's former name to be used as their rank - - though I also like Eagle's idea of some sort of time limitation on how frequently usernames may be changed...

I dont mind changing names. It isnt too much of a chore for me. I do think that the Identify theft names requires permission from the other party to proceed

Ive said to the other mods that I dont have an issue with the name changes either - but changing your name to that of another poster is a bit of an issue.
