OSU has a recent history of laying it to TX early but then getting stomped in the 2nd half. I think OSU is much more focused this time around although it is a tough chore to beat a #1 team on the road but they have shown they can beat a top 5 team on the road already this season. Plus, they have multiple home run hitters to throw at Colt and Co.

Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 8
USC beats Arizona by three touchdowns next week. Easily.
OSU will keep it close against Texas (closer than Mizzou did at least), but Texas is the real deal.
My top 25:
01. Texas 02. Alabama 03. Penn State 04. Oklahoma 05. USC 06. Florida 07. Oklahoma State 08. Texas Tech 09. Georgia 10. Ohio State 11. LSU 12. Utah 13. Boise State 14. Pittsburgh 15. South Florida 16. Missouri 17. TCU 18. Minnesota 19. Georgia Tech 20. Ball State 21. Tulsa 22. BYU 23. Boston College 24. Florida State 25. Cincinnati
The bottom half of the top 25 is a revolving door.

If a team like Boise State or Ball State stays undefeated, how high could they rise in the BCS standings? Are the top 10 reachable?

Levy wrote: If a team like Boise State or Ball State stays undefeated, how high could they rise in the BCS standings? Are the top 10 reachable? It's more realistic for Boise than it is for Ball State. Non-BCS conference teams have a huge stigma they need to fight, and past-success and name recognition comes heavily into play. The fact that Boise has had great success on an elite level recently makes an ascension into the top ten much more likely (same thing with Utah). Unless there is a drastic shake-up at the top, Ball State and Tulsa will probably be left out in the cold, even if they finish undefeated. A two loss SEC or Big 12 team is more likely to receive a BCS bowl invite than an undefeated Conference USA or MAC team, fair or not. However, if both Boise and Utah go undefeated, I think we could see the first time two non-BCS schools are invited to BCS bowl games. Utah especially, considering they still have the real meat of their conference schedule left. Hell, TCU probably has a better shot of crashing a BCS game even with one loss on their record than Ball State or Tulsa do. Their total dismantling of BYU was impressive, and if they can put up a similar performance against Utah, you have to think they'll be in the top ten by seasons end.

I definitely think that TCU has a decent chance if they win the rest of their games since their only loss was to Oklahoma. I think they'll need some help, but it's possible.

Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 8
01. Texas – Ok. They looked scary good on Sat. McCoy was ridiculously good. The fact that he had 80% completion rate going into the game and came out with a higher rate is just insane. We’ll see if they can keep it going. 02. Alabama – Ole Miss is a good team. I now think it is becoming more and more likely they will be beaten sometime this season. 03. Penn State – They looked bad the 1st half against Michigan but then rebounded strongly. I still think they can go to the BCS Championship game. 04. Oklahoma – Still a great chance to go to a BCS Bowl Game. 05. Florida – Can they end up winning the SEC … maybe … 06. Oklahoma State – I like this team and am looking forward to the UT game. I don’t think they’ll win, but if they can show some heart they may also have a chance at a BCS game. 07. USC - Who have they beaten again? O wait … that’s right … no one (that’s healthy). 08. Texas Tech – Another questionable win. They haven’t looked dominating in a while. 09. Georgia – Looking ok. Tough stretch coming up. 10. Ohio State – Haven’t looked this good all season. They will definitely pose a challenge against Penn State. 11. LSU 12. Utah 13. Boise State 14. South Florida 15. Pittsburgh 16. Mizzou 17. Minnesota 18. TCU 19. Florida State 20. BYU 21. Tulsa 22. Cincinnati 23. Georgia Tech 24. Ball State 25. Boston College

Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 10
Sorry about missing Week 9, long week.
WEEK 10
1. Alabama (+1) They played Arkansas State and beat them easily. The jump to #1 thanks to Texas losing. They travel to LSU next week. Could be a tough one.
2. Texas Tech (+7) Wow, what a game. I figured they'd be able to put up some points against Texas and make it a game. I did not think they could win. They're defense was the key to the game. They shut down the running game and forced McCoy to throw the ball every down. Harrell could be the real deal. Crabtree is the real deal.
3. Penn State (Even) Got to rest this week after their big win against Ohio State. They travel to Iowa next week on what could be a potential sleeper game.
4. Oklahoma (Even) Talk about just thrashing Nebraska. Bradford continues to show why he should be the first QB taken in the draft. They're defense hasn't been the strongest the past 3 games though. That's worrisome.
5. Texas (-4) Rough game. They were able to come back but just couldn't stop that TT offense. They still have a problem with their running game not even getting over 100 last game. They should be able to come back though and still have a shot at the Big 12 title.
6. Oklahoma State (Even) They have one lose to Texas and have decimated every other team they've played. This past week's victim was Iowa State. The dangerous thing about OK State is they have a play maker for QB, RB, and WR. You shut one down you have to deal with the other. They're a very good team.
7. Florida (-1) Easily beating Georgia this year was not surprising. After what Georgia did last year, you knew Meyer was going to have this team ready to play, and boy did they. They made Stafford look like a MAC QB and Tebow played like the Heisman Winner he is.
8. USC (-1) Easily embarrassed an awful Washington team. They'll win the Pac-10 again and go to the Rose Bowl. I think too many teams are in front of them to get into the Championship.
9. Utah (+3) Best non-BCS team and actually could compete against the bigger schools I think. They play TCU next week for basically to see which team goes to the BCS.
10. Ohio State (Even) They're two losses are against USC and Penn State, can't really fault them for that. Had a bye this week before going to Northwestern.
11. Boise State (+2) Easily beat New Mexico State. They don't play a ranked opponent this season.
12. Georiga (-4) Ouch, that was just an ass kicking. Maybe now people can get off the Stafford bandwagon. The kid doesn't make good decisions, he now has more picks then touchdowns. I don't care if he's a gunslinger. I want a smart kid in my backfield.
13. Missouri (+3) Barely beating an awful Baylor team is embarrassing but a win is a win. They don't face anyone until the last week against Kansas which could be for the battle on who wins the Big 12 North.
14.LSU (-3) Just not the same team from last year. They still have QB problems and they're defense isn't the regular LSU defense. Easily beat Tulane. Alabama comes to town next week.
15. TCU (+8) Damn talk about an ass whooping. UNLV didn't have a chance. Travel to Utah in 4 days.
16. Ball State (+5) Never thought these guys would ever make it this far up but thanks to the bottom 10 always beating the shit out of each other, they keep moving on up. They'll lose to Central Michigan in 3 weeks.
17. Michigan State (N/A) Talk about coming from behind to win the game. They scored 12 unanswered points to win the game and this was with Ringer being completely shut down. They could play spoiler for Penn State in a few weeks.
18. Georgia Tech (+1) Beat Florida State in a very close game. They look like the top team in the ACC which isn't saying very much. They lead the Coastal division.
19. Maryland (N/A) Talk about the advantages of the bye week. Leads the Atlantic division in the ACC but will be tough to keep it.
20. Northwestern (+4) Beat a solid Minnesota team. They travel to Ohio State next week in what could be a good game. Of course I said that about Michigan State and look how that turned out. We shall see.
21. North Carolina (N/A) And they're back in the rankings. This team just doesn't make sense. One week they look like the best team in the ACC, the next week they look awful. Of course that sums up the ACC pretty well.
22. West Virigina (N/A) Took them awhile but they are back. After just an awful start of the season, they have gone on a run and finally look like the team to beat in the Big East. Never would have thought that after they started.
23. Kansas (-6) Two of their three losses have been to #1 teams (Oklahoma & Texas Tech) and when you look at the other teams in the last 5 or 6 positions. They're just as good. They easily beat K State and play Nebraska next week.
24. California (N/A) Just like North Carolina they have this Jekyll and Hyde thing going for them. One week they look awful, next week they look great. They beat a solid Oregon team and could be the second best team in the Pac 10.
25. Pittsburg (-10) Losing to Rutgers was an embarrassment. Beating a decent ND team helps. Still can't figure out if they are for real or not.
Dropping Out South Florida, Tulsa, Minnesota, Boston College, Florida State
Just Missing the Cut BYU, Cincinnati, South Carolina

California is not doing well. We win 2 and lose 1. This is going to continue this week too since we are playing USC, and we are definitely going to lose. oh well. (At least it is looking better than last season's collapse.)

Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 10
WEEK 11
1. Alabama (Even) It was close but they were able to beat LSU in the end. Alabama clinched a spot in the SEC championship where they'll probably play Florida.
2. Texas Tech (Even) Wow. Well that game wasn't even a contest. I thought OK State could beat them but they just could not stop Harrell and that high powered offense. They go to OU next week it what could be the season decider for both teams.
3. Texas (+2) Their loss to TT doesn't look as bad after they demolished OK State and Texas easily dominated an awful Baylor team. I don't see how they can make the championship though. If OU beats TT then I see them jumping Texas.
4. Oklahoma (Even) 4th straight game scoring over 40 points, this week against A&M. If Bradford can lead them past Texas Tech next week then we could see them in the title game again.
5. Florida (+2) They could be the best team in the SEC. Tebow is back and playing better then ever, they've put up over 200 total points in 4 games and they're defense is shutting everyone down. Should be them vs. Bama in the SEC championship for the national championship game.
6. USC (+1) They didn't play great but they were able to pull out a tough one vs Cal, who I thought was the second best Pac-10 team. Look for USC to end up in the Rose Bowl though. I just can't see them passing this many teams.
7. Penn State (-4) I called it last week that Iowa was a sleeper game and I was right. They'll still win the Big-11 and then get their asses kicked by USC.
8. Utah (+1) Good win against TCU. They needed to win and they did. They look to be the best Non-BCS team and only BYU stands in their way to get into a real bowl game.
9. Ohio State (+1) Damn. OSU easily demolished a pretty solid Northwestern team. Pryor looks like he is finally developing his arm. Doesn't look like they'll make a BCS game now thanks to Penn State's loss.
10. Oklahoma State (-4) Ouch. They had a chance to make a case for themselves to get into a BCS game, they didn't make it. They were simply embarrassed by Tech. They still have Oklahoma on the schedule so they could still play spoiler.
11. Boise State (Even) Honestly I'm not going to type about this team until they play Fresno State. They easily beat weak opponents and have a very good freshman QB.
12. Missouri (+1) They're going to win the Big 12 North. They've won 3 straight after losing two in a row. Beat a decent team in K State. Will either face Tech, OK, or Texas in the battle for the Big 12 championship.
13. Georgia (-1) They fall 1 for nearly losing to Kentucky. They really do have a lot of problems. Stafford and Moreno both played great but their defense did not show up. That seems to be their problem. One side of the team shows up but the other doesn't.
14. Ball State (+2) They just keep moving up. They have Central Michigan in two weeks and Western Michigan after that. I think they lose both.
15. Michigan State (+2) Third best team in the Big 10. In normal years they wouldn't be this high but teams just keep losing and they just keep moving up. They play Penn State in 2 weeks.
16. North Carolina (+5) And the mess of the ACC continues. They beat who I thought was the best team in the ACC in Georgia Tech and now are the leader in the Coastal division. They travel to Maryland next week.
17. LSU (-3) Can't really fault a team who as lost to Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. They put up a fight against Bama but just couldn't do it. They'll be back in the hunt next year though.
18. Pittsburg (+7) They can thank all the other teams in front of them losing for this big of a jump. They easily kicked Louisville's ass and could be the best team in the awful Big East. They travel to Cincy in 2 weeks.
19. Cincinnati (N/A) Almost blew it to West Virginia but good teams find a way to win. The battle between them and Pitt will decide who the best of the Big East really is.
20. Florida State (N/A) Clemson made it a game for about a half but FSU was just too powerful. I guess they could be the best in the ACC but nobody really has a clue do they? They travel to a decent Boston College team next week.
21. TCU (-6) Almost beat Utah but just couldn't do it. They play Air Force next week. TCU should pat themselves on the back for a solid season.
22. South Carolina (N/A) They easily beat an awful Arkansas team and finally made it into the top 25. Garcia is looking like he could be the QB they need. They travel to the swamp next weekend.
23. Oregon State (N/A) 5-1 in the Pac-10. The team that is playing now is not the same team that lost to Stanford and Penn State. They could be the second best team in the Pac-10.
24. BYU (N/A) And they're back in the top 25. The next two weeks should challenge them when they face Air Force and Utah.
25. California (-1) They tried to make it a game but just didn't have the office they needed to beat USC. They play Oregon State next week.
Dropping Out Georgia Tech, Maryland, Northwestern, West Virginia, Kansas

I do wonder how high TCU would have been had they beat OU and Utah this season and gone undefeated. Would they have a case for being #1? It's a nice what if.
