Post Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 5
Wow, the Big 12 definitely has some teams that look dominating. I was expecting the Missouri game to be much closer than it was.

I would have dropped BYU as well after seeing their bad performance against Utah State. Although the score didn't indicate it, BYU didn't really play that well against a horrible team. The only way they even have a chance of making it to the BCS Championship Game IMO (this was being debated on CBS) is if they demolish everyone on their schedule, including Utah and TCU. Even then they might not be chosen. However, being ranked as high as they are now in the national polls definitely helps them make a BCS bowl if they go undefeated.

And although they play in a much easier conference, Penn State is looking very dominating.

who ever wins the big 12 and who ever wins the SEC should be the title game

Okay, Jimmy.

I don't see Notre Dame anywhere on your latest Top 25. I would like at least a mention or an explanation of why you're not mentioning them! Bastard.

Post Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 7
WEEK 7

1. Texas (+4)
Colt McCoy meet Mr. Heisman, Mr. Heisman meet McCoy. Were his stats off the chart this week no, is his stats for the season #1, no. But at this moment in time, he is on the best team and is a very good QB. Now they have to prove that they deserve to stay #1 with an angry Missouri coming to town.

2. Alabama (Even)
Had a bye, goes against Ole Miss next week.

3. Penn State (+3)
They just embarrassed Wisconsin. Easily the best team in the Big 10 right now and with Michigan coming to town they should get another easy win. They travel to Ohio State in 2 weeks.

4. Oklahoma (-3)
They lost a tough one. Stoops has not been able to win a big game the last few years which should be making Sooner fans nervous. Kansas comes to town next week. A win gets Oklahoma right back into the hunt.

5. Florida (+5)
Wow. I don't even know what to say after their game against LSU. They demolished them, the game wasn't even close. You want to know why Florida looked so good. Tebow finally started playing like Tebow and they finally found a running game. They keep a balanced offense, they can compete.

6. Oklahoma State (+9)
For anyone who has read my rankings then they know I love this team. I liked them since week one and they proved they were the real deal with the win against Missouri. Hunter just vaulted himself into the Heisman Race.

7. Texas Tech (EVEN)
They almost blew it but hey a win is a win. Harrell played great and is still in the Heisman race. They're defense still worries me and I wonder how good the team really is.

8. Georgia (+1)
Easily beat a pretty bad Tennessee team. Moreno finally looks to be running at full strength but they still need more consistent play from Stafford. They're defense looks on again.

9. USC (-1)
Sanchez should go buy lap dances for his entire defense because he played awful. It seems like you'll never know which Sanchez is going to show up and if USC wants to get into the Championship game, he needs to improve.

10. Missouri (-7)
Rough loss for Missouri but it didn't really surprise me. The season isn't over yet for them with the Big 12 still being a wide open race. They need Daniels to show up in the big game and he hasn't yet in his career.

11. Ohio State (EVEN)
I feel like a broken record but the O State offense is awful with Pryor at QB. They will not be able to beat the Penn State defense with Pryor. They beat an awful Purdue team. They travel to the surprising Michigan State team next week.

12. LSU (-8)
Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch. That game can be a season killer if they let it. I doubt Les Miles will allow that though. They need to get their running game going if they want to win.

13. Kansas (+1)
Easily demolished a bad Colorado team. Reesing played well and Sharp may have finally got over the hump to be the lead runner. Unfortunately, they travel to Oklahoma next week.

14. BYU (-1)
They beat UNLV, another nobody team. Play a real team you they'll get a real ranking.

15. North Carolina (+5)
Wow, I never thought I would have NC in the top 15 in football but they're playing well. Came from behind and beat a decent Notre Dame team. They're defense is strong but I'm still worried about their lack of offense.

16. Utah (EVEN)
Easily beat Wyoming. They don't play a ranked opponent until the final week against BYU. The winner will end up in the BCS game.

17. Michigan State (+4)
So it looks like MSU is the real deal. They easily put away Northwestern and Ringer is still looking like he could be the best running back in the nation. We shall see if they are the real deal when Ohio State comes to town next week.

18. Wake Forest (+5)
They beat a very overrated Clemson. They still have no offense but have a good defense. That could be enough to win the average ACC. They don't play a ranked opponent until the last week, Vandy.

19. Boise State (-2)
If you want to play weak teams, I expect you to easily beat them. Boise State doesn't do that. Until they do, they won't get a higher ranking.

20. Virginia Tech (-2)
Fell but no fault of their own. They had a bye.

21. South Florida (-1)
Fell but had a bye.

22. Pittsburgh (+2)
Had a bye.

23. Tulsa (+2)
Barely beat a bad SMU team but a win is a win.

24. California (N/A)
And they make it into the rankings. Had a bye this past week.

25. Minnesota (N/A)
They beat a decent Illinois team on the road. They've only lost to Ohio State and looks like they're the 4th best team in the Big 11.

Dropping Out
Auburn, Vanderbilt

Just Missing the Cut
Ball State, Georgia Tech, South Carolina

Didn't BYU play New Mexico? They don't play UNLV till the 25th.

I think Penn State is starting to grow on me. Obviously their conference doesn't have the calibur that the SEC or Big 12 does, but they have looked absolutely dominating. The game against Ohio State (improved since USC) is their only obstacle to going undefeated. As for OSU or Texas, both have mighty tough roads ahead.

Glad to see another college football obsessive on the boards.

Here's my top 25. I put it together late last night.

01. Texas
02. Alabama
03. Penn State
04. Oklahoma
05. USC
06. Florida
07. Texas Tech
08. Oklahoma State
09. Missouri
10. LSU
11. Ohio State
12. Georgia
13. BYU
14. Utah
15. Boise State
16. Virginia Tech
17. North Carolina
18. Pittsburgh
19. South Florida
20. Kansas
21. Vanderbilt
22. Michigan State
23. Ball State
24. Tulsa
25. California

Almost there: Georgia Tech, Minnesota, TCU, Wake Forest, Florida State

Couple of things: I think you have Kansas way too high. Oklahoma will beat them by 21+ next week. I'm still not sold on Wake Forest. They barely look like a top 25 team. Glad to see some love for Tulsa and Ball State.

BYU wins, drops 1.

Cal doesn't play, moves up at least 2.

That Maryland loss early in the season was a total fluke, and they almost pulled it out anyway. They beat Michigan State (a fellow top 25er), and have looked pretty solid most of the year. Considering the talent level Tedford pulls in every year, I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt right now.

As for BYU.... play somebody.

Don't put them so high if they're just gonna be dropped for not playing "anybody".

You can look at the schedule before you do the rankings you know.

I've never had BYU that high in my rankings. Actually, I think this (13) is the highest they've been yet.

Originally I was referring to Jim's rankings, as he dropped BYU for winning and bumped up Cal for not playing.

things change every week Chip. Most of us dont use the moronic ranking of, if you're undefeated then you get #1, #2, #3 and how every many more and then have 1 loss teams after that.

I'm not sold on Texas Tech. The only semi-good team that they have played was Nebraska (not quite there yet to be good) and they needed OT to beat them. They have a good offense, but can the defense hold up?

I already stated to Levy that I would never use my system for college.

But you obviously never finished kindergarten.

obviously u've never heard of things change every week. It's possible to win and fall in the rankings. Look at the regular rankings, it happens all the time.

College football polls are by far the WORST polls of any sport. Not a single voter knows what the hell they're doing.

... Let's see your rankings.

01. Texas - What a game against OU. Still some questions on the defense, but they are looking good.
02. Alabama - I love their defense. I like Nick Saban. Tough challenges await in the SEC.
03. Penn State - As of right now, my favorite team to make the BCS Championship. They have looked absolutely dominating.
04. Oklahoma - Tough loss. Still have a shot at a BCS game if they finish strong.
05. Florida - I don't like how USC has played and their wins have come over poor opponents. Florida has great speed and Tebow is a great QB. That and Mr. Meyer.
06. Oklahoma State - They've beat better teams than Texas Tech and showed what they can do defensively against a potent offense.
07. USC - They beat Virginia (don't let the ECU game make you think they are a good team this year) and Ohio State (no B. Wells) and haven't been impressive since the Oregon State loss. They can still make it to the Rose Bowl, but they don't look as dominating as people thought.
08. Texas Tech - Good, but overrated, offense. When you design an offense to throw as much as they do, of course they are going to rack up yards and points. But if they were put against a top notch defense, I don't think they'd respond.
09. Georgia - Though they lost to Alabama, I like how they look against the other SEC teams.
10. Mizzou - Wow. I thought they were going to compete until the end of the year for the BCS Championship. I thought Chase Daniel had the Heisman in his back pocket. O well.
11. BYU - Undefeated, but that's about it. They may crack the top 10 with a decisive win over TCU, but I won't consider them legit until they beat Utah.
12. LSU - I don't like the quarterback situation at all. And their defense looked slow against Florida. Of course they do have Les Miles.
13. Ohio State - I like Pryor and Wells, but this isn't Ohio State's season. I can't see them getting by Penn State.
14. Utah - That Michigan win isn't looking that impressive after all.
15. V Tech - After a shaky start to the season they have bounced back well.
16. Boise State - BCS Buster? Maybe, but it seems they don't control their destiny as say BYU or Utah would.
17. South Florida
18. North Carolina
19. Pittsburgh
20. Michigan State
21. Vanderbilt
22. Kansas
23. Minnesota
24. TCU
25. California

Post Re: Jim's NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings Week 8
WEEK 8

1. Texas (Even)
Um wow. I figured Texas would win but this was just a simple ass kicking. McCoy is easily the front runner for the Heisman now. He threw 3 incomplete passes out of 32 and 2 touchdowns. That's just phenomenal. Oklahoma State comes to town next week. Hopefully it's a better game.

2. Alabama (Even)
Bit of a rough game for Bama but Ole Miss has shown that they can keep up with any team. Coffee was basically shut down and John Parker Wilson put the team on his back and led them to victory. The defense is still one of the tops in the league. They go to a bad Tennessee team next week.

3. Penn State (Even)
Well that was just an embarrassment. After it looked like we could see an upset after the 1st quarter, the real Penn State team showed up. Penn scored 32 unanswered second half points. Clark continues to show flashes of Michael Robinson, the last dual threat Penn QB, and Royster continues to run the ball well. They travel to the Horse Shoe next week for the battle of the Big 11 title.

4. Oklahoma (Even)
Needed a bounce back game and they got it. Beat a very solid KU team with Bradford leading the forces. This kid is good. He could be the first overall pick next year. Set the school record with 468 yards passing. Travel to Manhattan next week to play an average K State team.

5. Florida (Even)
Had a bye. Kentucky comes to the Swamp next week.

6. Oklahoma State (Even)
Easily beat a bad Baylor team. Hunter didn't have the big game I thought he would but Robinson continues to impress at QB. They've got a great offense but their defense still makes me wonder. They face the #1 team next week. It'll be tough.

7. USC (+2)
And the two sided Mark Sanchez continues. He played just an amazing half but I still don't know about him. Plays great one week, awful the next. Who is the real Sanchez. Go to Arizona next week.

8. Georgia (Even)
When Moreno plays healthy they have one of the best offenses around. Problem is that doesn't seem to happen too often. Stafford still makes too many mistakes but man can they play defense. Stafford just needs to manage the game and Georgia will be right back in the hunt. They go to LSU next week.

9. Texas Tech (-2)
Second straight week where they didn't play as well as I had hoped. A&M is an awful team and they hung around for about 3 quarters. But still a win is a win. Harrell/Crabtree is still the best QB/WR combo in the nation. They travel to Lawrence to play KU next week.

10. Ohio State (+1)
Domination. O State proved that Michigan State was not for real. Pryor finally had a solid game with over 100 yards passing and 70 yards rushing with 2 total touchdowns and Wells dominated with 140 yards and 2 touchdowns. In even bigger news their defense stuffed Ringer. They play Penn State next week in the battle for the Big 11.

11. LSU (+1)
Well that was almost an upset. Luckily the LSU defense and new QB Hatch came through in the clutch. Their defense is clutch but I'm worried about their offense. I don't think they have enough. Georiga comes to town next week.

12. Utah (+4)
Utah just crushed Colorado State. They're leading rusher this past game was their backup QB. Odd. Easily the best non BCS team. They play TCU in two weeks.

13. Boise State (+6)
Easily the second best non BCS team. Easily beat Hawaii and really shouldn't run into a hard team until the last week against Fresno State.

14. South Florida (+7)
They can thank about every single team in front of them losing. They demolished just an awful Syracuse team. Grothe continues to be one of the most underrated QB's in the NCAA. The loss to Pitt could ruin their chances at the Big East title. I still think they're the best team in the Big East.

15. Pittsburg (+7)
Won big against a decent Navy team and have possibly the best running game in the Big East. The Bowling Green Game is still an embarrassment but they lead the Big East right now. They play Notre Dame in 2 weeks.

16. Missouri (-6)
Ouch. Second straight week where they just did not look very good. Daniel needs to get back to where he was at the beginning of the season because right now he is not the same QB. Luckily for them they don't play another ranked opponent until the last week.

17. Kansas (-4)
They should have fallen further but with so many teams losing, they benefit from it. They were able to keep up with Oklahoma for a half but that was about it. Reesing and Briscoe did well but they're defense just couldn't make a stop. Texas Tech comes to town next week and that passing game isn't going to be any easier.

18. Tulsa (+5)
Hung up 77 points this week. Let me repeat that 77 FUCKING POINTS. They have the leading QB in yards and QB rating. They might not be able to stop anybody but nobody can seem to stop them either. They go to Arkansas in 2 weeks and I'm excited to watch this offense.

19. Georgia Tech (N/A)
Didn't play great but they were able to beat a Clemson team that is in utter chaos. They have no passing game but a very good running game. They're defense hasn't allowed 20 points in a game yet this year. That might be enough to get them the ACC win.

20. Minnesota (+5)
The benefits of a bye week. They just had to watch people lose. They play in the weak big 11 and have a chance to run the table the rest of the way.

21. Ball State (N/A)
Another team that got the benefit of a bye week. They have a cake walk until the last 2 weeks when the play both Central and Western Michigan.

22. Boston College (N/A)
They've only lost to Georgia Tech. They've got a hard nosed defense but almost no offense to speak of. Of course they play in the brutal ACC which helps.

23. TCU (N/A)
They absolutely dominated the very overrated BYU. They've only lost to Oklahoma and they only play one more ranked opponent in Utah. They've only allowed 21 points in the last 3 games. Their offense is nothing to write home about though.

24. Northwestern (N/A)
Every couple years these guys turn out to be a pretty good team. They demolished Purdue. They have a solid QB and RB but I'm not sold on their defense. They still have to face Minnesota and Ohio State.

25. Florida State (N/A)
They beat a pretty good NC State team even if the record doesn't show it. They've got a high powered offense and a pretty bad defense. They face 3 ranked opponents.

Dropping Out
BYU, North Carolina, Michigan State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, California

Just Missing the Cut
BYU, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Virginia Tech
