Phelps is ready to break the record for most golds.
He's got it in the bag.

Though I still think Athens was better. That whole Callas tribute was so nice. And I suspect Barcelona's lighting of the flame cauldron will never be equalled. Also, George and Russia are at war? Surprised to see such a positive reception when the Japanese came in. Where the crowds trained/forced to cheer?

I know, but there is a suggestion that Russia will bud in? Well, it's Russia, so I suspect they already are.

Sydney still has the best opening ceremonies (IMO), followed by Barcelona. These were alright... tons of fireworks.

Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
The crowd was pretty subdued. It seemed INSANELY hot in Beijing. Everyone had their jackets off.

Isn't that the worst time to be in Beijing? Everyone is there now. I suppose it'd be OK if you like big crowds, which I don't, heh. I wish they held it in Shanghai. Then we'd get cool shots of the skyline

Being on the west coast, we're the last one to watch the opening ceremony. And I have to avoid major spoilers like crazy.

Boring. Could have been much more exciting. As someone over at HSX said: Quote: And here was I thinking nothing could be more boring than the Oscars...Looks like I was wrong

Beautiful as always from yimou.
But it feels more like a Closing Ceremony type of show... it doesn't pump you up, it makes you calm, lol. The fireworks in the beginning were stunning though.
