Exactly. $15 is more than twice the current average ticket price, so a $300 million movie today could take out Titanic at $15 per ticket. But as time goes on, it will likely become more difficult to sell as many tickets. I suspect that IMAX will replace regular theaters because home theater is becoming more and more accessible to many people. For a lot of people it's a much better option than going to a regular theater.

I'm surprised with how much they seem to be doing this far out. It's probably going to translate into an even huger campaign come July, which puts it in a very good position.

They waited until the last minute with both Batman Begins and Superman Returns, and look what happened there. In all fairness, it's not like Iron Man had a discreet campaign, and yet it cleared $100 million in one weekend despite not being a sequel.

They should take the Incredible Hulk approach and not market it AT ALL

The Joker poster is pretty badass, just as the entire campaign has been thus far.

Re: The Dark Knight Predictions-TV SPOT #3 OH SHIT!
Good news on the runtime front, well if you care about box office. The Dark Knight is 2.5 hours AT MOST. There is a gala in Chicago on July 16th honoring Nolan and showing the film in IMAX. The screening time says 7 PM to 9:30 PM and there is a reception from 9:30 to 11:30 PM. It's possible that Nolan hit the nail on the head in his claim that it would be similar in length to Batman Begins. I wouldn't be surprised if the movie is around 2:20 to 2:25 and there's a short break before the reception so that people can go to the bathroom, etc. http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=7217

Re: The Dark Knight Predictions-TV SPOT #3 OH SHIT!
After seeing the Mummy trailer and the X-files 2 trailer, Im lowering mine. Not because either looks better, but there also high franchise films, and I think Ledger's death may bring out more people than usual opening weekendwise and then as a result it'll be more frontloaded. I really hate this film in late July, it has no holidays to grab onto.
my new prediction
OW- 110 million Total- 290 million

X-Files? Really? That will have trouble cracking 60m total, thats a total non-factor.

El Pollo Loco wrote: X-Files? Really? That will have trouble cracking 60m total, thats a total non-factor. Oh it won't be a problem, but it certainly has a fanbase. The 25-40 million weekend that it gets will be from complete hardcore fans of the show, and I think it would be very hard to find an X-files fan who also doesnt like Batman. 40 million worth of fanboys and natural frontloadedness will be an effect no matter what. 55-60% drop even if its amazing.

Re: The Dark Knight Predictions-TV SPOT #3 OH SHIT!
Do not forget the Summer weekdays.
We always forget how huge they are for summer films (films after ID4).
They will be huge for this film... not DMC huge which is like the king of the largest summer weekdays, but they will add a lot to the film.
So if the films opens to 110 million, I really think it can pass 300 million due to those weekdays.

40m OW is like the absolute best case scenario.

Re: The Dark Knight Predictions-TV SPOT #3 OH SHIT!
Well the film can open huge as the over predicted Hancock will be over by then and Hell Boy will be a sub 35 million dollar film.
It then has about 13 days till its real competition which is Mummy 3. That film could open to 50 million.
However in those 2 weeks of weekdays (about 8 in total) they will be huge for the film and will be the factor in letting it top 300 million.
