I mean, besides the NBA, which is obviously fixed, which other sports do you think are fixed?

I'd say all of them.

Yeah, I think all of them are fixed, to an extent. It's especially evident in football and basketball. Boxing has long known to be fixed as well.

Well, I don't think anyone cares enough about hockey to fix it. But other than that.

To fix a sport they would have to keep a lot of people quiet. By now somebody would have come out and talked. The only sport that could be fixed is boxing but that is an easy one to fix.

Still it's odd that so many playoff games just happen to go into overtime and so many playoff series go to 6 or 7 games - - gotta sell that ad space by hook or by crook...

Hockey is entirely run by the goalies. They reward themselves handsomely with the extra profits of their fixing, and therefore have no motivation to be caught...

Just because the population didn't like it, doesn't mean it wasn't the best thing for the league.

And come on! The Celtics were a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE team last year, and now they are playing a superior team in the NBA Finals and winning? HAH!

It was bad for the league. Ratings went down a lot when the Spurs played.

Celtics/Lakers both getting those unbelievable trades is bullshit IMO, but not fixed. To me, both teams got lucky that the other team had a star player who really wanted out and they really had no choice but to just give him up. I think it's bullshit but I mean, bullshit trades are apart of sports.

To flush out Excel's point just a little bit more, the Celtics traded away most of their team to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Garnett. Did McHale play a part in it? Probably, but it's not like he didn't get any talent in return. Many of the players we traded away in that deal (especially Al Jefferson) have the possibility to become high quality players. They'll probably need a veteran around to help the process though.

I still have no idea what to make of the Gasol trade though.

And Munk, if the Knicks had won the lottery this year that would've helped your cause. Instead the Bulls won it. I guess you never know who the Knicks could deal though to get someone.

The Bulls are a big market team. The NBA wants them to be good.

The thing that was bs about the Boston trade is that Boston's package of Rondo, Jefferson, and the #5 pick of last years draft was turned down. Then all of a sudden McHale takes Jefferson and a bunch of scrubs. What's with that?

It was turned down because Garnett didn't want to go anywhere at first. Then the Celtics traded away the #5 pick (Jeff Green) to Seattle along with Delonte West and Wally Sczerbiak and got Ray Allen. Once that happened Garnett wanted to go and the Celtics then proceeded to trade away their entire team outside of Pierce, Perkins, Rondo and the two Allen's.

Yeah Jmart is right, Garnett intially refused to come to Boston and then changed his mind after Allen got there

I'm actually a big supporter of the Wolves deal. Jefferson, their pick back this year which was surely going to be bottom 5 (ended up #3, probably OJ Mayo), two good young players in Telfair and Gomes, and general cap flexibility later on as they don't have to pay Garnetts 23 mil a year. Can't get much better than that for a superstar who wants out deal.

The worst trade of all time (yes... worse than Gasol) remains what we got for Vince Carter. We got Eric and Aaron Williams, the #16 pick (which ended up being Joey Graham), a late 1st rounder, and the right to pay an old shitty Mourning to refuse to play here. Fuck you, Rob Babcock.

Which is why I think the NBA fits more under the label as "Fishy" than flat out "Fixed". They obviously can't control every game, and at times there'd be no point. For example it would make no sense to fix any of the Spurs run games last year for either side, the alternatives were Utah and Phoenix, and at the time when the Spurs won their 2nd and 3rd series, it looked like their opponent would be Detroit... It was going to be a ratings disaster any way the cookie crumbled, there's clearly not enough incentive for them to care there.

The Kings-Lakers series in 2002 on the other hand... You either had a) The Shaq-Kobe big draw Lakers going for the coveted 3-Peat. b) Sacramento vs New Jersey. I wonder which one the league would prefer. David Stern was probably hearing the words "Sacramento vs New Jersey" in his nightmares. :funny:

The other series under the microscope if you will right now is the Bucks vs 76ers ECF in 2001. Same deal, the Bucks went up 3-2, Game 6 was horribly called for Philly, the league gets their dream MVP Iverson vs Lakers juggurnaut matchup over a Milwaukee vs LA mismatch. Allen pretty much came out after that game and said it was bullshit, among others.

I've also read that the 1993 WCF Game 7 between the Suns and Sonics was extremely sketchy, and same deal, the side that got the calls had big star Barkely on it, an ideal matchup against the Bulls.

:grrr:

Eric Williams?? :funny: Don't get me wrong, I liked him when he was a Celtic, but how the hell was he the lead name in that deal?

If the NHL wanted to Boost ratings make millions they would always have Teams like Maple Leafs and Montreal facing teams like Detroit...

The only ratings that matter to the NHL are US ratings. Canadian teams don't bring US ratings.

The ratings in the US are always a joke for the league they are an embarrassment.

You can have a all American final and there still are 3 million Canadians watching it...

You get the big Canadian team (Leafs/Habs) vs the big American team like Detroit or Philly and you would get big ratings on both sides.

You would have easily have double the ratings.
