Post Clinton raises assassination issue
Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Staying classy to the end I see.

Source.

I'm not too surprised. I saw a surrogate of hers on msnbc the other day say that Hillary is staying in because something could happen to Obama. And there was this mailer of hers from a few weeks ago. With a gun barrel going right through Obama's head.

Wow. Real nice. Probably also why she's willing to be VP. She probably figures (like Loyal and I'm sure others) that Obama won't last a full term.

I don't think Obama will last a full term either. Too many gun waiving maniacs in the South that won't like having a black president.

Also that mailer is pretty damn funny (and I think completely unintentional). Oh, and she needs to drop out. Seriously.

Ugh. It's comments like these that make me dislike her more and more. How can she seriously keep spouting out stuff like this yet still prattle on about "change"?

I started out not caring what happened, then was pretty okay with the choices being Clinton or Obama (it was never going to be the republican guy), and now I'm all for Obama. While I don't agree with him on everything he's at least got a track record that shows promise. Yes, it's a short track record but to me it's not how much he's done but the judgement he's used while doing it.

Most everything opposers say is a con for Obama (youth, willing to speak with enemies, whatever else) I find a refreshing change and I'm actually a little disappointed he caved to the flag pin nonsense :er:

One thing I always found amusing about all this lunacy is that Clinton touts the fact that she wins the white, rural, uneducated vote. That would make me really proud, personally. Knowing that the majority of people with an education don't vote for me.

*For the record, if Clinton somehow managed to win the nom I would vote her over McCain in a split-second.

The South doesn't have a monopoly on "gun waving maniacs." Illinois minus Chicago is a deep-red state, for instance. The idea of "gun waving maniacs" equaling hillbillies is inaccurate -- the real gun waving maniacs are urban criminals. Chicago is a lot more dangerous than anywhere in Arkansas I've been to (other than parts of Little Rock with urban criminals). :P

The south is where the majority of racists are. Sorry, but it's true. Not saying that there aren't any anywhere else, because there are. It's ridiculous to see how many racists there STILL are.

I wish Hilary would go away. For life.

To longer she stays in the more she hurts the Democratic thing......really she becomes slowly a dumb ego and its time for her to leave.

One would imagine that she just imploded what's left of her campaign. At the very least, the superdelegates should start bailing en masse.

Exactly. That's why Obama needs to stay as far away from them as possible.

I've lived in the heart of the South for 15 years, I think I know the extent of the racism that is here.

No they don't but considering the hubbabaloo that was raised when Georgia changed its flag to be more sensitive to people who were offended by its old design...I'd say we've got a pretty good percentage of them.

Racism is the North is just as bad, its just different, its often subtler but its still there.

Sure, when in the South I've more racist things said to me outright, in the North, its more of a general vibe.

My cousins who were born and have spent almost all of their life in the south often hate being here, because this subtler forms of racism is more foreign to them.

No one in the North ever called me colored, but that doesn't mean they did not make me feel unwelcome, suggest I shouldn't date their son, etc.

Oh I know you are right, it is definitely pronounced in the South, we just wave it around like we've got nothing better to do.

People here still fly the confederate flag as a "political statement" and I can't tell you how many "The South will Rise Again" bumper stickers I've seen. Of course these people are generally uneducated and trying to hold a conversation with them is like talking to a brick wall (or Bradley).

I was speaking more to like Munk and Josh comments, but I quoted you cause well I did.

Racism in the north and south is just so different, and how you view i think it based on what you are used too.

I've had people not shake my hand, in the south they'd tell me why, in the north they'd try to subtlely get out of it, as if I did not notice.

Its just different, but I think racism in the south gets more press, and is seen as worse because its so overt. But at least in the south you know how people feel, so its can easier to avoid them.

Yeah, here in the South they'll tell you they won't go somewhere because there are too many black people or that someplace went "ethnic real fast" etc. etc. etc.

It just irritates me so. I could understand not wanting to be near people who for example were drug addicts, child molesters or rapists (all choices you make) but my fucking God you don't choose your skin color.

Grr...sorry, I'll stop ranting now before I really start.

I grew up in the south (Georgia) and I've lived in LA for 6 years. The biggest difference to me is not that racism is so much more overt in the south (although it is), it's that there is no real shame about it.

People in LA won't admit to racism, and they're ashamed of themselves when they have a revealing moment. When I'm in the south and someone makes a racist comment, they act like it's YOUR problem if you have don't like it.

And you wouldn't catch anyone dead in LA with a Confederate flag on their car (or maybe that's exactly how you'd catch them because somebody without a sense of humor about that sort of thing would kick the shit out of them).

See I don't think there is anything about having a "sense of humor". I roll my eyes and shrug it off as ignorance, but if somebody wants to push the issue I've been known to quite gruff with people over their stupidity:

"It's about my heritage"
"Yeah, and your heritage is that you are an American"
"My ancestors fought in the Civil War"
"And mine fought in the Vietnam war, you don't see me brandishing a Vietnamese flag now, do you?"
"It's about state's rights"

And then it just goes down hill from there...

I'm all about freedom of expression and go ahead and fly the flag and paste it on your car, but don't expect me to take you seriously if you are an ignorant fool. *shrug*

I'm also much more sensitive to racism because I come from a mixed family (we've adopted 3 African American children) and thus I've had to endure a lot of people being total fucking idiots towards my siblings. I may not care what you say about me but you talk about my little sister and I'll fucking come after you.
