By the way, does anyone in Canada know why CBC isn't airing any of the Western Conference games? They played quite a few of the quarterfinal games (Canadian and non-Canadian games), so I figured it wasn't due to the games being broadcast on TSN, but maybe that's what it is. It's because TSN is. They have to split the series up until the finals, which CBC has. CBC gets first pick, though, so they chose the Montreal series (because they're Canadian) and the Pittsburgh series (because... duh). Crazy good game in Pittsburgh tonight. Didn't watch San Jose/Dallas - doesn't interest me at all.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
I had a feeling the Rangers would get deflated in this series after blowing that 1st game, they just couldn't lose that one. You can't give Pittsburgh a break.
Fate seems to be pulling for a Pittsburgh-Philadelphia ECF... It would be fitting with the hoopola at the end of the season of Pittsburgh potentially throwing that game to play Ottawa. Not to mention they're divisional and state rivals who seem to generally hate each other.

Wow, Dallas looks really fucking good. Looks like Richards really does have a "playoff button, push here for awesome", and Zubov back only helps. I don't really want them in the finals. They're

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Dallas winning two in San Jose is pretty fucking surprising (especially since only one team has ever won a series losing the first two at home... that was Carolina two years ago against Montreal), but I guess the Sharks do play better on the road. Still....
This round isn't nearly as exciting as round one. Series aren't nearly as close.

Just flipped over to the Flyers/Canadiens game.
A. Who just set off the foghorn? B. What the hell was Hatcher thinking? C. Even though I hate the Habs, I will laugh hysterically if the Flyers blow this lead.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Philly looks better than Montreal, they should've won all 3 of these games
Hard to believe where they were a year ago as compared to now, without getting any boost from the draft. I can't remember a turn around this quick. Meanwhile the Columbuses and Florida's of the world are thinking "Dammit... Why couldn't WE do that, ever"

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Philly doesn't accept failure and will go out and spend as much as it takes to field a winner. Same can't be true for other cities and their owners.
And you're right, Philly should have won all 3 so far, and has looked better than Montreal all series.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Hart nominees: Ovechkin, Malkin, Iginla. I don't see any way AO doesn't win.
And Eagle, that may be true about Philly, but it's not necessarily smart. Spending a lot of money on free agents, rather than drafting well, usually results in short-term gain, long-term pain. They may do well this year, and the next few years, but it's gonna catch up with them eventually.
The key to this series has been goaltending. I don't think Philly played better than Montreal last night, but Biron outdueled Price, and that's all that matters. Montreal outshot the Flyers 2-1, and only scored when they had a five minute powerplay. Biron has played unbelievably.

But the Flyers DO both well.
Look at their past draft picks, they have tons of stars ... just look at Gagne, Richards, etc, etc.

The Rangers are going out rather pathetically... I thought they had the pieces they need this year, good forward, good defence, great goalie, experience. I guess they just ran into the uber Pittsburgh machine.

Dallas just won to go up 3-0. So there's two series at 3-0, with the other one being clearly dominated by Philly. Boooooorrrriiiinnnnggg......

Sean Avery out for the rest of the playoffs (probably just one game) with a lacerated spleen.

Adams Award: Guy Carboneauu, Bruce Boudreau, Mike Babcock.
Solid choices all around, but god damn, what does Claude Julien have to do to get some love in the league.
Oh, and WORST 2ND ROUND EVER.

Oh, and WORST 2ND ROUND EVER. You've got to be shitting me. He takes a team that was picked to finish in dead last, takes them to the first round of the playoffs, almost knocks off the one-seed, and he doesn't even get a mention? I understand the first two picks, but Julien should be in ahead of Babcock.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
I dunno, Detroit finishing first every year is not just luck, and Babcock has been there for awhile. And there'll still in the playoffs, something that Boston, Washington, and soon Montreal can't say. It's just tough when there's only three selections.
And Mike, how about Price faltering in the playoffs, eh? Just kidding, I don't mean to rub it in, but I bet they wish they could lean on Huet now, especially considering how well he played for Washington.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
It's a regular season trophy.
What they "almost" did in the playoffs is not taken into consideration. And Nashville didn't even beat Detroit, they lost. It doesn't matted if they won no games or 3, without winning the series it's a moot point.
Detroit had so many injuries this year to go along with handling 2-3 goalies who are ALL good. Babcock deserves it.

Why did Malkin slow down?! Was he trying to confuse the goalie?
