Whether it's the Flyers or the Caps who move on, the second round matchups in the East will be fantastic. It's a shame that they'll be hardly seen outside of Canada.

Just heard something on the TV...

If Calgary and Philly win tonight, it'll be the first time EVER that the final eight is composed of teams who've all won the Cup before. That's kinda surprising.

There go the Caps. Too bad. They worked hard to get to the playoffs and fought hard to stay alive.

The refs handed it to the Flyers. That second goal, plus the penalty out of nowhere in overtime (there hadn't been a powerplay since the second period). Oh well.

Flames are basically done. Down 5-2 going into the third.

Well, Calgary lost. :( But it's their own damn fault. They should have won the 4th game of the series to make it 3-1 at the time, but they BLEW that game like none other and let the Sharks tie the series 2-2, and ultimately let it roll until game 7. I cheered valiantly for them, but it didn't work out.

On the other hand, Philly won! Yayyyyy. I definitely wanted the Habs to play them and not the NY Rangers, who they would have played if Washington won.

Peace,
Mike

Yeah, I think Montreal has it a lot easier against Philly than against the Rangers, who I think would've beaten them. I think the Habs can beat the Flyers though.

But still, Pittsburgh/Washington would've been INCREDIBLE. Pittsburgh/New York should still be good, but c'mon!

Calder nominees: Kane, Backstrom, Toews. As expected. Disappointed one of the Oilers didn't get in, but it really doesn't surprise me.

Price getting snubbed for the Calder :disgust: Not that Kane/Backstrom/Toews are undeserving, but Price backstopped the run to #1 in the East, that's worth at least a nomination. I would've snubbed Toews for missing half the year, or just given 4 nominees.

I hope Backstrom wins actually.

Lady Byng: Datsyuk (won the last two years), St. Louis, Pominville. Datsyuk's probably the favorite again unless they're tired of voting for him.

Actually I wouldn't be completley upset if Datsyuk got a Hart nom this year, though I suspect it won't happen. 3rd in the league with 97 points, by far the most steals (according to Nhl.com he has 144 and second place has 86, that is insane), best +/- in the league, takes no penalties, and he's the best player on the best team.

It's a shame. The NHL could've let the contract with Versus run out, and then they could've begged ESPN/ABC to take them back allowing two games at a time to be shown on air! Imagine that. Instead they signed a new deal with Versus keeping them on that channel until 2011. A channel that most people don't know exists.

It's sad, but I think the MLS is close to matching the NHL's popularity here in America (in terms of ratings). Say, who airs MLS games again?

Yeah, it's a shame this year isn't on National TV, it's been kind of a resurgance. I'm sure people would love to see Pittsburgh vs New York, I mean that's a goldmine.

Selke nominees: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Madden. Not sure who could win it, could Datsyuk get two awards?

And it's looking possible that he could get a Hart nomination. That's announced on Tuesday; Ovechkin is a given, but who will be the other two? Malkin? Iginla? Thornton? What do you guys think?

I think Malkin gets one for sure. I think Thornton will miss, he's been under the radar of sorts this year, I don't see how he would beat Datsyuk and Iginlia. But I think the 3rd nominee will actually be Nabokov.

Down 3-0 and they still came back to win it 5-4! :D

By the way, does anyone in Canada know why CBC isn't airing any of the Western Conference games? They played quite a few of the quarterfinal games (Canadian and non-Canadian games), so I figured it wasn't due to the games being broadcast on TSN, but maybe that's what it is.

I don't have a preference for who wins the Pens/Rangers series. I just hope it goes to game 7, and every game from here on out has 4 overtimes.

Peace,
