Post Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
We can't shake the Canadiens. :funny:

The Bruins sweep the home and home and knock the Maple Leafs out of the playoffs in the process, but just as we start to advance forward into 7th, the Canadiens get knocked down into the 2nd slot. And thanks New Jersey for blowing that 3rd period lead.

At least the entertaining thing about the East right now is that any team in the 4-9 slots can fall right out the picture.

Here are the schedules for each of the teams because I have nothing better to do right now.

4. Senators (4 games left): Bruins away, Canadiens home, Maple Leafs away, Bruins home
5. Devils (5 games left): Flyers home, Islanders away, Bruins home, Flyers away, Rangers home
6. Rangers (5 games left): Penguins away, Penguins home, Islanders away, Islanders home, Devils away
7. Bruins (5 games left): Senators home, Sabres away, Devils away, Senators away, Sabres home
8. Flyers (5 games left): Devils away, Islanders away, Penguins away, Devils home, Penguins home
9. Capitals (4 games left): Panthers away, Hurricanes home, Lightning home, Panthers home

I think it's very easy to say that based on their schedule, if the Capitals don't finish in the 8th spot, then they deserve to not go to the playoffs. Those are as easy a final four games as you could ask for. The Flyers and Bruins might have the hardest schedules, but the Bruins have played well against the Senators and Sabres. Hopefully they're recent scoring surge against the Maple Leafs can continue for them. It'll be an interesting finish.

The Flyers are my dark horse btw. With a healthy Mike Richards they were right at the top of the East, plus Briere has been playing like a beast lately and has done well in the playoffs before.

DIE LEAFS DIE

Oh, and San Jose/Montreal is my early pick for the finals.... with San Jose winning, of course. :disgust:

FUCK YOU OILERS.

I definitely think Nashville's getting in now. Their remaining schedule is just too easy. Damn the Central Divison!

I wouldn't have minded if they got San Jose again... but they won't... Once again Sakic fucked that up

Still alive!

We're tied for eighth now with Nashville and Vancouver, but they each have two games in hand. But.... we have more wins, which is the first tiebreaker. So all we need is to win our two remaining games, and for both Nashville and Vancouver to lose at least two more games (in regulation) each, and we're in.

Hello, Pittsburgh? Please win today in regulation. No overtime or shootout bullshit please. That is all.

Thank you.

Big game tonight for the Bruins. If they win tonight, not only do they knock out the Sabres, they leapfrog into 5th with a tie with the Senators. And with the season series tied at three a piece, that final game in Ottawa might end up being a very big game.

Well, at least we picked up a point. Could've been worse, but could've been better.

Oh, and Pittsburgh? Hello again. Could you please win once again tonight? Thanks.

The Oil were done IMO as soon as Nashville came back from 3-0 to the pathetic fuckin Blues... the loss was just the confirmation.

Ottawa is 2 points out of 9th ahahahahahhaa. I don't know what I'd rather have, Carolina choking and missing the playoffs or Ottawa. Not that I usually hate Ottawa, but it would simply be hilarious and historic. BEST START IN NHL HISTORY. :funny:

The Oilers could still have passed both Calgary and Vancouver (well, tied with them, but had the wins advantage) but not anymore. Ah well, it still bodes well for next year.

I just hope that Vancouver can somehow get in instead of Nashville now, though I doubt that will happen. And that the Capitals can knock out Carolina, too. That would make this easier to swallow.

Yes! The Pens take their division tonight with a 4-2 win over the Flyers. Now if they can squeeze out just one more win, they'll take the conference.

I really do hope they last longer than the quarterfinals this year.

Wow....I actually didn't realize that Ottowa and Boston play each other on Friday.

This means that Caps are automatically in the playoffs if they win their next two games.

Um....no?

If the Capitals win both of their games, they'll be at 94 points. Ottawa and Boston are both at 92 points. If they each win their game not against each other, they'll both be at 94 points. If their game against each other goes to overtime, they'll each get a point, thus being at 95 points - and ahead of Washington.

Here, Magnus (or Magpie? WTF), I got this from TSN:

Quote:
Despite their incredible run, the Capitals still need a little help.

If Washington wins its last two games, the Caps would make the playoffs if:

- Carolina loses in regulation or overtime to Florida on Friday

- Ottawa loses one of its two remaining games in regulation or loses both in overtime

- Boston loses one of its two remaining games in regulation or loses both in overtime

- Philadelphia loses one of its two remaining games in regulation or overtime

Boston and Ottawa play each other Friday in Ottawa. If that game ends in regulation, the most one of those teams could earn is 94 points, and the Capitals hold the tiebreaker against both of them.

That means that as long as that game is decided in regulation, the Capitals control their own destiny.

Tonight should be pretty sweet... Toronto with the oppurtunity to fuck you Ottawa, Edmonton with the oppurtunity to fuck you Vancouver. GO LEAFS!

Looks like what the Sens needed was just a shitty team to play against. They're dominating the Leafs.

The Edmonton game is a win-win tonight... If they win, boo hoo for Vancouver. If they lose, Vancouver gets to play Calgary with a chance to eliminate them if they win in regulation on the last day of the season! I hate Vancouver AND Calgary, so hurray!

I'm actually cheering for the Oilers to lose tonight ( ) so that the Canucks have a chance to eliminate the Flames on Saturday. Seeing Calgary miss the playoffs would make me oh-so happy.

Yep, Edmonton kicks Vancouver's dog. I actually hate Vancouver more than Calgary, so yeah, it's all good.

I have to say that this has been one of the best hockey playoff races in a while. It's been a pretty insane two weeks with Ovechkin's madness in the East and that colossal 3 + 5-9 seed buttfuck, pretty much all the Canadian teams being on the edge, and the divisional scheduling that worked out great (though I still hate the 8 games a year thing as a whole).
