Post Re: 2007 NFL Discussion
Patriots historic win draws biggest regular-season audience since '95

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- NFL fans around the country took advantage of the opportunity to see Saturday night's historic game.

An average of 34.5 million viewers watched the New England Patriots become the first team to go 16-0 in the regular season, the largest audience for an NFL non-playoff game in more than 12 years.

In most of the country, the Patriots' finale against the Giants was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs.

The league announced Wednesday that it would simulcast the game on CBS and NBC. The matchup was already set to air on local stations in the Boston and New York areas.

The telecast drew in fans curious to see whether history would be made and kept them with a competitive contest, as the Patriots came back to win 38-35. The 34.5 million viewers, according to fast national ratings, were the most since 35.7 million watched the Chiefs face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving 1995.

The game received a 24.0 rating and a 40 share in New York and a huge 50.1/75 in Boston.

The rating is the percentage of all homes with televisions watching the game, while the share is the percentage of TVs in use at the time that are tuned in to it.

Saturday's game was the first three-way simulcast in league history.

50.1/75 in Boston. :funny: Although, it wasn't like anyone who wasn't interested in football had a choice of watching the game or not. It was on the three main local stations here.

With that in mind though, is the 34.5 a little disappointing though considering it was simulcast on two main networks, or am I looking into it too much?

Good story for the Skins, Taylor incident and all. Vikings definitley choked it away last week though.

On another note... the NFC does suck. Bucs-Giants? Hawks-Skins? Yuckk. And I'm not even sold on Dallas(Romo's breakdown last year scares me) or Green Bay(I'm still baffled they went 13-3).

It's pretty damn good for anything on Saturday night, period. Probably the most watched Saturday night program in ages.

On the bright side, the Browns should be able to make the playoffs next year. They'll most likely have a somewhat weak schedule and as long as the defense doesn't get too older, you guys will probably end up something like 9-7 and have a wildcard spot.

Except they may be having a new starting QB next year. Never know what is going to happen with Quinn.

Not to mention if this year is any indication, every team but Indy, NE and Dallas can have their record picked out of a hat.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Romo fuck up and lose in the 2nd round, though. I would predict it if his competition was harder than Seattle/Washington.

Not if San Diego wins.

They play the lowest seed.

So if Tennessee wins, then they will play them. But if San Diego wins, they play Jacksonville/Pitt.

Patriots beat the Bengals in Week 4: Bengals lose in Week 6
Patriots beat the Browns in Week 5: Browns win in Week 6
Patriots beat the Cowboys in Week 6: Cowboys win in Week 7
Patriots beat the Dolphins in Week 7: Dolphins lose in Week 8
Patriots beat the Redskins in Week 8: Redskins win in Week 9
Patriots beat the Colts in Week 9: Colts lose in Week 10
Patriots beat the Bills in Week 11: Bills lose in Week 12
Patriots beat the Eagles in Week 12: Eagles lose in Week 13
Patriots beat the Ravens in Week 13: Ravens lose in Week 14

The NFL's penalty policy is a joke. Vince Wilfork gets his third (!) fine of the season by the NFL and still only has to pay $15,000. When will they finally hit those serial unsportsmanlike player with a fine that hurts them?

Do you have a personal vendetta against the Patriots?

Did they rape you or something?

My picks

Seahawks
Jaguars
Buccaneers
Chargers

I'd like to see.....

Redskins
Steelers
Buccaneers
Titans

The nice thing is I think any of these games could go the other way. That's why I'm so glad I don't have to participate in the Pick 'Em thread this week.

I have a personal vendetta against such behaviour. It's pure coincidence that's a Patriot. I have the same vendetta against the laughable doping policies by NFL and MLB. (pure coincidence - but telling - that another Patriot is involved) I think it's just sad that someone who is caught like Merriman or Harrison is just suspended a few games.

You trash the Patriots as a team every chance you get.
