So...

Hart has more yards than McFadden.

Michigan is undefeated in Conference play, Arkansas is 0-2.

McFadden averages 6 YPC, while Hart averages 5 YPC.

My Top 3 Heisman choices right now would be:

1. Andre Woodson
2. Matt Ryan/Colt Brennan
3. Mike Hart

It's not all about stats. It's about who is the best player. The 3 QB's can all fall with one loss.

This game was 16-14 in the third quarter. Eastern Michigan is one of the worst teams in 1-A football.

There has been nothing "amazing" about Michigan's four straight wins. Three of them were over bad teams (and two of them were battles for most of the game), one of them was over a hugely overrated team and all but one of them were at home. Which brings the question... does Michigan ever play on the road?

1. We're not discussing Michigan. Even though they've won 4 in a row after embarrassing losses.

2. Hart is the MAIN reason for all of their wins.

3. Unlike McFadden, Michigan can't win without Hart.

4. It was 16-14 in the 3rd quarter. And then Michigan decided to give it to Hart more and they score 17 more points QUICKLY.

Like it or not, if you're talking about Hart for the Heisman, you are talking about Michigan. Heisman voters have shown time and time again that they will not award someone who plays on a bad/mediocre team, no matter how good they are or impressive their stats are. Yes, Hart is the main reason for all of Michigan's wins over sub par opponents. Congratulations.

Well then I guess McFadden is out of the race then, by your logic?

Also, according to your thoughts, Matt Ryan pretty much has this in the bag.

As Arkansas is probably gonna lose 1-2 more games. Kentucky should as well. Cal will probably lose 2 games too. BC MIGHT lose to VT. But that is about it.

So congrats Matt Ryan! Makeshift is announcing you the Heisman winner!

I've never declared McFadden to be the front runner, and while I think he has a better shot than Hart (because he is a better overall payer than Hart), his team isn't good enough for him to win it either.

Actually, if I had to call someone the front runner right now, it would be Tim Tebow. There are times when he seems to be the only player Florida has, and they have played against some stiff competition and put up impressive numbers. If he pulls out a win tonight, he has got it pretty much sewn up I think.

Even with all of that said, I still think it is too early to say X or Y has it locked up. However, we have definitely been able to weed some contenders out, and Mike Hart was knocked out of the race after Michigan's second game of the season. Like it or not.

Better overall player???

You're insane.

McFadden barely shows up in the second half of his games. That's where Hart flourishes. And last I checked, that's the most important part of the game.

Sure, McFadden can throw. Whatever, when your QB can't, like last year, then he needed to. But his blocking ability, which is EXTREMELY important, is not NEARLY as good as Hart's.

TEBOW?!?

Are you kidding me?! The ONLY chance he has is if he wins tonight. But he won't. He'll probably get sacked 5+ times.

Right. I am now fully convinced you have never seen McFadden play.

Block out the terrible music, and what you'll see there is a player absolutely dominating SEC level competition. This isn't Hart's environment, with Big Ten players moving in slow motion. These are the best of the best college football has to offer, and McFadden makes them look like fools time and time again. I'm sure you conveniently missed his direct-snap touchdown run against Kentucky the other week too, where he split two defenders, then cut back past a defensive back with a beautiful change of direction and made it look easy.

And I'm not sure where you're digging up this "McFadden doesn't play in the second half" stuff. If you're talking about the 'Bama game, he was hurt.

If you want to use a different measuring stick, lets see who goes first in the NFL draft next year. McFadden will likely be a top five pick, whereas Hart will not even go in the first round, and might fall into the second day.

There is no doubt in my mind that McFadden is the best skill position player in college football. Normally this equates to a Heisman win, but as I've been saying over and over, your teams overall success plays a huge part in the process. This is why McFadden will likely fall short.

McFadden has TWO TD's in the second half this year. One was rushing, one passing.

The SEC is NOT the best conference. That would probably go to the Pac-10. The Big 10 is the toughest conference to run against, BECAUSE of their power. They may not be the best overall conference, but against the run, they are great.

Hart is a better power runner. Power runners thrive in the NFL, ala ADRIAN PETERSON being better than Reggie Bush.

Two of the four games were blowouts that he barely played (if at all) in the second half in.
He was hurt in the 'Bama game.
He was hurt in the Kentucky game, and Houston Nutt lost his fucking mind.
So your statistic means nothing.

No. From top to bottom, the SEC is the best conference. This is a useless conversation piece, though, as there is no true way to determine this. All you can do is watch a lot of college football, which you apparently do not do.

As for your assertion that the Big Ten is the best conference against the run, this is something you have clearly created out of thin air, as there is no statistical evidence to back up your claim. What I can tell you is that Michigan surrender 330 rushing yards to Oregon. Again, 330.

Calling Peterson a power runner is a bit of a stretch, as he uses his speed to break away from defenders just as much as his power. A true power runner is someone like Ron Dayne (another Big Ten hero for you), who has had just as miserable of a NFL career as your average finesse back. McFadden, like Peterson, has a mix of speed and power. He will thrive in the NFL. Draft King is the number one mock draft source out there. You won't see Hart's name anywhere, but you will McFadden. And it's high.

Just because Peterson uses his speed to get away from defenders doesn't mean he's not a power runner. He is the DEFINITION of a power runner.

Post Re: Mike Hart for Heisman Thread!
Hart was designed to be a good NFL running back; he runs right up the gut for his yards.

Hart has more value to his team then anybody in the league, no doubt. Wether he is the most talented player is too close to call, but in terms of valuable...nobody tops him and that is undeniable. Without Hart Michigan is 0-6 instead of 4-2.

Combos of speed and power work well in college do not always transition to great backs in the NFL. First off, AP isnt nearly as quick fotoed as McFadden; but he had a lot more power. McFadden is a less talented version of Reggie Bush; super talented big play maker. Those thrive in college, but the transitition to the NFL isnt easy.

Hart gets his yardage the same way backs in the NFL do; he is going to have a great rookie year next year high draft or not.

It's become a 6 man race. According to ESPN experts.

Darren McFadden - RB - Arkansas
Matt Ryan - QB - Boston College
DeSean Jackson - WR - Cal
Tim Tebow - QB - Florida
Mike Hart - RB - Michigan
Chase Daniel - QB - Missouri

I don't think DeSean has a shot, as he has had mediocre stats at best.

And apparently nothing can stop Tebow, despite losing TWICE... IN A ROW.
