Hopefully won't come to that, but can not to draw parallels to Sam Bowie. Quote: Microfracture - Arthoscopic procedure, minimally invasive, only takes 30 minutes to complete, but they are no returning in a month. Create tiny fractures on the adjacent bones which causes new cartiledge to develop. Recovery time is minimum 4 months, and sometimes as long as a year or 2 for full recovery. Ouch. Some of the recent basketball players with it...Chris Webber, Amare Stoudamire, Kenyon Martin (still out)... EDIT: Nice page about it: http://www.nba.com/sonics/news/microfracture.html

Blessing in disguise for Portland. They'll have an excellent future with a very high draft pick next year rather than get stuck in mediocrity for years.

Would never call this a blessing. Even in disguise.
No guarantees Oden will come back strong, there are no guarantees for high enough pick, and no guarantees for that pick to be a good player.
This is enourmous blow no matter how you slice it.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season/offseason kilter
Honestly, contrary to my prior post and even though the Celtics were the frontrunners to get him at one point, I do feel sorry for Oden and the Trailblazers. Hopefully he can bounce back from this and give Portland and the rest of the NBA a good show.

this is a blessing; in addition to oden, now they have a shot a geting ANOTHER top 3-5 draft pick!
same way celtics not getting number 1 or 2 was a blessing as they got ray allen & kg outta it, this is too.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season/offseason kilter
Kirilenko pretty much asked to be traded today
I actually say decent choice. Utah had both a slow gamestyle last year and played him on the perimeter(so Boozer and Okur could be PF/C), it's no surprise he went from all-star to suck.
And Utah if smart could really make a jump here. Kirilenko wasn't bad but just more of an awkward addition to their big 3, if they can get one more great piece that actually fits in the system, watch out.

The problem with AK is that he has an awful contract.

I don't know why Marion for Kirilenko isn't even being discussed by the gms, you literally can't get a more perfect trade.

The Celtics trio look very good so far this preseason. I really can't wait for November 2nd to get here. Actually I can because I hope the Red Sox continue to win in the playoffs, but if the trio keep gelling like they've shown in just two games, they're going to be a lot of fun to watch this year.

You know Boston is alive and well in Boston when the first preseason game is sold out.

Yeah, Rivers. It's preseason, not too worried. Spurs went 2-7 last year I think.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season/offseason kilter
This is so fucking weird. The Celtics/Nets preseason game has been called on the account of condensation. Apparently due to the freakishly high temperatures in Worcester, MA (71 there right now) it caused the ice under the floor to melt causing huge puddles to form on the floor. They were able to complete one half, but the Celtics and Nets agreed that it was too dangerous to complete the game. I guess the win goes to the Celtics and they win 36-33. Fans are now gathered near the floor to sign autographs with the Celtics.
The sad thing though is that this was the first Celtics game in Worcester in a few years. And since the city is about two hours outside of Boston, some of the fans there might not be able to get to see them again.

I hope Jamario Moon makes our team, not only because he looked pretty good tonight, but because he has the best name ever. And it opens the door for the ridonkolous "You've just been mooned!" catchphrase, spawned by Toronto's finest announcers.

Not groundbreaking news but Antoine Walker and Michael Doleac got swapped for Ricky Davis and Marc Blount. Good for Miami... horrible and stupid for Wolves as usual.

JMart, saw the game on monday? Best preseason game I've ever seen. Competitiveness was on playoff level.
And yeah, that Miami - Minnesota deal reeks of "rape". Walker has last two years as team options, so that's one less than Blounts...but Davis is damn expiring contract.

As for the trade, Minnesota is just unloading at this point. They apparently want no one to show up for their home games this year. And with Walker on the team and no one else worth mentioning, they've quickly become the 1998 Boston Celtics, just with a 10 year older Walker. As for the Heat, they've quickly become a contender once again. It'll be interesting to see what the standings look like 1-4 in the conference at the end of the season.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season/offseason kilter
Yeah, feels weird saying this, but the East is gonna be tough this year. I count 9 good teams (Detroit Cleveland Chicago Boston Washington Miami Toronto Orlando NJ) and 8 playoff spots. Before Davis I thought Miami would be the easy choice to miss, now I don't know. Just hope it's not us. The West would actually be a lot easier to crack the playoffs in, GSW, the Lakers, Hornets, not the most fear-inducing group.
