I've seen an inordinate amount of balls hit into the stands deliberately during a match the last few days. What's up with that?

Federer is the Master. Roddick just isn't going to EVER get past Federer with his game.
** wow, the ibm stat tracker just showed Roddick hit a 142 mph serve and it's pretty late in the game **

So much for comparing this match to Sampras vs Agassi

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
Another typical Roddick/Federer match. Andy actually did better than I thought with the two tiebreaks, but he's got such a one-note game, there's no way he can ever beat Federer when he's on.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
Even though Roddick vs Federer is the most pathetic rivarly ever, I kind of like these matches. It's like watching a small dog losing a fight over and over again, or getluv's threads on this board. It's unfair but kind of funny to see Roddick play that good and still lose in straight sets every time... can't imagine how demeaning it is.

The first two sets might've been 7-6, but it was never a close match.

Doubles matches are only 2 sets now? Super set tiebreak....... how odd.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
It has been that way in the Australian Open and the U.S. Open for a couple years. I remember when they introduced it and people were not pleased. I think it's pretty stupid, and I can't remember seeing the top male and female players playing, which the super tie break was designed to do.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
Ladies Final is set:
Justine Henin [1] BEL v. Svetlana Kuznetsova [4] RUS
The first all Russian semifinal was a mess of errors and very difficult to get in to any rhythm watching. Chakvetadze was very near tears at the end of the match.
The second, marquee semifinal between Justine and Venus was much better. The first set was great tennis with many fantastic rallies, most notably that one where they were at net for the last 8 strokes or so. I knew Henin wasn't going to serve out either set, but was surprised that she only needed one tiebreaker to do so. It seemed like after Venus had that chat with the trainer she gave up a bit.
Should be a ....bad final with Justine winning rather easily.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
Yeah I really loved that. Really up and down, and some amazing shots and rallys. Even better than Jankovic-Venus. I think Henin and Venus are the true 1-2 players right now, though knowing Venus, she'll disappear again next year. I guess Kuznetsova will be #2 after this. Kind of gross. I don't hate her, but she just kind of did well at small tournaments then got the luckiest draw ever here.

It's Justine Henin's year apparently. She can't lose to the sisters.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
Henin served horribly in the first set and still won 6-1. Brutal... so much for Kuznetsova being the #2 player in the world.
I'm kind of happy she'll win though, it's surprising this is only her 3rd non-clay major and the first since like, early 2004. Injuries, random upsets like Bartoli and those 3 final matches last year, etc. kept her down. She probably should be winning her 6th non-clay and 10th overall or something right now.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
This is the most boring final I've ever seen I think. Henin is just TOTALLY dominating. I'm rooting for Henin, but common, at least compete!

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
I never get bored by Henin matches for some reason... It's the same thing as when Federer's killing someone, I just love watching them move and make their individual shots beautifully point after point. I could watch Federer and Henin kill opponents all day.

So the men's final is in the mid-day afternoon and at the same time as football? Who's idea was that?

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
And Federer takes the first set 7-6 via a Double Fault from Novak. A double fault loses the break for Novak and it loses the set. and until that 6-5 game, Novak had only lost 5 points on serve. Ouch.
