71 is good enough. Holding the embargo so long made me think it'd be in the mid 50s.

Wheel of Time and His Dark Materials were such non events. Maybe they can try again one day.

Yeah I wasn't impressed. I liked the first few episodes but then it fizzled out.

I'm hoping this is good and can re-capture some of what made the LOTR trilogy so special.

First episode was quite mediocre and only occasionally interesting, though obviously gorgeous to look at

It also was not that woke and probably like 90% of the characters are white including all the Elves in Valinor. From the backlash you'd think this had Sandman level race and gender swapping.

I already feel like this would have been better off with original characters in place of Galadriel and Elrond. The actors are both good, but knowing their fates makes them less interesting by default.

Galadriel being married since the first age is kind of a bummer for them storyline wise

I pretty much agree with zwack on everything. It's not very good, but also not bad enough to bail on the return to middle earth just yet. The music was excellent at least.

I agree that it has prequel problem of knowing already Sauron will come back and eventually get his finger cut off. But I just don't like the pacing of Amazon shows.

I feel like people are just being negative for the sake of being negative. I watched the first two episodes this morning and loved them.

This is probably partly true. There's a lot of resentment that the series even exists. In a lot of people's minds it's almost as if if there's any Tolkien TV/movie adaptation then Peter Jackson is the only person that should be involved.

But the trailer was pretty awful, too. So people were probably going in with their knives sharpened, and I can't fault them for this really. The series looks to be yet another example of woke-ism, and people are rightly opposed to it.

This attitude is SO annoying. I was reserving judgment until I saw the show, despite thinking the trailers were meh. I've been a defender of many review bombed productions.

But this show is just not good. It's gorgeous to look at but there is no interesting hook in the first 2 episodes whatsoever.

If someone's main critique is black elves then sure, but the critiques of the show being boring are pretty valid in my opinion. I feel like people were coming at House of the Dragon with their swords out, then after two episodes most bent the knee because that show has been awesome so far

I think the hook for me is the young Galadriel. I'm interested in the journey she takes from warrior to Lady of Lorien. I think the actress portraying her is phenomenal so far.

I also find the Harfoot Nori's story more interesting than most of the hobbits.

I love both shows so far. If I could only pick one though, right now it would be Rings of Power. Mainly because I know less LOTR elven history than I know Targaryen history, so there's a bit more mystery and intrigue for me in Rings of Power.

Galadriel is the best character for sure. But it still wasn't that interesting watching her spend an hour on a raft with Totally-Not-Sauron guy.

Girl Frodo is in the same boat. I kinda like her, but Totally-Not-Gandalf has already overtaken her story.

Again though, I'm very much hoping it all comes together. I read that even though they spent $250M on the rights, they can't use anything from The Silmarillian. That's a tough place to start from considering this show is supposed to be an adaptation of it lol.

Hot raft dude being Sauron seems pretty possible. Not sure if meteor guy will be Gandalf, it sounds like the timeline in the books would have to be changed quite a bit for that, but maybe.

I would have preferred this and HotD not being released so close together but ah well.

Haven't seen it yet (the 'it's boring' talk puts me off a bit) but the visuals just look too good to miss so will give it a go.
