How to Get Away With Murder
I sort of have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, she is unbelievably talented and it almost seems like broadcast TV will be too constraining. On the other hand, she probably gets offered crap supporting roles in a lot of Hollywood movies. And if Shonda puts the same energy into this that she does with Scandal, all bets are off. Quote: Viola Davis is headed for Shondaland.
The two-time Academy Award nominee (The Help, Doubt) will star in ABC's Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers drama pilot How to Get Away, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller centers on ambitious law students and their brilliant and mysterious criminal defense professor who become entangled in a murder plot that could rock their entire university and change the course of their lives.
Davis will play Annalise DeWitt, the law professor and renowned criminal defense attorney described as brilliant, passionate, creative, charismatic and ruthless in the courtroom and the classroom. The character is an excellent manipulator of people, particularly her law students -- five of whom she selects to work with her at the firm. Married to a psychology professor and having an affair that no one can know about, she calls her Criminal Law 100 class "How to Get Away With Murder."
Grey's Anatomy's Peter Nowalk will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios drama alongside Shondaland's Rhimes and Beers (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal). Michael Offer will direct the pilot, which will film in Philadelphia. Davis joins a cast that also includes Matt McGorry, Aja Naomi King, Alfred Enoch, Karla Souza, Jack Falahee and new addition Charlie Weber (Resolution, Vanguard Management, Gregory Slewett).
For Davis, the role marks her return to television following roles on Showtime's United States of Tara, NBC's Law & Order: SVU as well as City of Angels, among others. Should How to Get Away move forward, it would mark her first full-time foray into series television. On the feature side, her credits include Ender's Game, Beautiful Creators, Eat Pray Love and State of Play. Davis, who most recently wrapped indie Lila & Eve, is repped by CAA, Lasher Group and Lichter Grossman.
For Shondaland, this marks the production company's second drama with an African-American lead after ABC's breakout hit Scandal. The series, currently in its third season, has made star Kerry Washington an awards season regular with Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, among others. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-f ... ama-680273

Re: Viola Davis lead in new ABC pilot from Shonda Rhimes
Based on Deadline Pilot Buzz, it's looking very strong that this will be picked up in the fall. I could see ABC moving Grey's Anatomy and Scandal an hour early to allow Scandal to be in the 9pm anchor to be a lead-in to the new Shonda Rimes drama starring Viola Davis. Based on the premise, this looks very promising.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
I saw it a few months ago. Certainly a lot better than "Scandal." The end surprised me.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
The end was so shocking and the pilot overall was better than Scandal's pilot.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
Easily my new favorite drama of the season. I'm expecting some GG nominations this year from this show.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
The cuts between the wood scenes and the actual show are really annoying. But it's an OK show for now.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
To say that I'm addicted to this show is an understatement. Last night's episode was twisty. It was good to see the guy who played John Bennett on Orange is the New Black (Matt McGorry) got more screen time!!!

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
I laughed myself silly when the SHOCKING!FINAL!9!WORDS! the promos had been teasing all week is "Why is your penis on a dead girl's phone?" Only this and Scandal could have such hilariously crass lines out of context and totally make them work in context.
While I'm all about Legend Viola and the character of Annalise in general (the wig/makeup removal was some raw shit and was super brave of Davis), the rest of the cast is starting to grow on me too. This show is just really so much fun.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
Last night's episode lived up to the promos.
I knew there was going to be something crazy about Connor and Doucheface is so funny. I love him in OITNB!
I wonder what's going to happen with Rebecca and Wes.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
I don't get the fascination with this show. It's OK. The cuts between now and _ weeks earlier are still badly edited and annoying. The actor playing Gibbons is really bad and the scene where the secretary jumps from the window was bad and unintentionally hilarious. Viola Davis deserves better material.

Viola Davis just locked up the emmy with that lastscene.
So Shonda brought rimming to broadcast tv? Lol

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
Just watched the fourth episode and it was really good. I agree that all the characters have become likable at this point. And I'm intrigued by the central mystery a lot.

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
I loved Laurel's storyline last night. My favorite part was when Connor was sexting a juror to get him dismissed out of jury duty. Also, the last few minutes were crazy especially with the wallpaper!! Sam is a bad husband to Annalise!

Re: How to Get Away With Murder
I just watched all the episodes in the last two days. It's very enjoyable so far! The flash forward thing is pretty strange but I'm hoping it'll be effective when the season is over or whenever they get to real time.

I loved to see more of Asher's storyline last night and when he slept with Bonnie towards the end. This show continues to be AMAZING!
