A teaser trailer for the reboot Netflix series of the beloved children's books has finally hit the internet.

I'm certainly excited. While the later books were a bit too meta and confusing, they still should be exciting to see put to screen. The 2004 film was a big disappointment; the writer of the novels Daniel Handler, will be writing the series, which gives hope for book loyalty. The first season will consist of 8 episodes, with two for each of the first four books (The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window and The Miserable Mill.) The series will drop on Friday, January 13.

Timothy Spall was a better Mr. Poe, but this still looks like it ill follow the books better.

First two episodes were wonderful, if a little slowly paced.

Finished it. Loved it. Highly recommended, especially for fans of the books. Miles better than the 2004 film. My only complaint is that The Reptile Room episodes are changed a bit in that the Peru expedition is a last minute thing and the kids don't help him prepare.

I watched three last night. This show is fun! And visually it's really gorgeous. The closest comparison I can think of is "Pushing Daisies."

It looks very expensive, and it's cool how most of the cast went unannounced. Didn't expect so many big names to be showing up.

Yeah, but I was like 16 I haven't rewatched it in years. Not sure what I'd give it now.

Never read the books though, no. Was basically only into "Harry Potter" during that YA book craze.

The girl playing Violet is a dead ringer for a young Emily Browning. It's almost uncanny. I wonder if they did that intentionally.

I watched the first episode yesterday at my friend's place. She has 4k TV and we streamed it from Netflix. I was appealed how UHD kills the visuals. Green screen was like a fist in the eye throughout the show and the CGI looked terrible. I downloaded FHD today and it's much nicer to look at.

It reminded me of how The Hobbit looked terrible and stage play like in 48 fps.

Well, it is a TV budget. I cut them slack. Though the Wide Window in particular looked poor, especially the house falling into the lake, I never once bought they were actually falling.

I'm not holding the grudge against the show due to that. Obviously production values have to be even better than top notch to look good in 4k. It's more about how the technology is going too fast for the rest of the movie art (set designs, CGI, etc.) to catch up with. I really don't see how anyone can enjoy watching the scripted TV shows in UHD like this.

I haven't had an issue with this on my TV. Maybe my eyes are more evolved.

Maybe you've gotten used to it? We did watch Cooked afterwards and that was fine looking. But theere were no sets or CGI there to stare at you and scream "Fake!"

I read a little more than half the series and really liked the movie but I don't know about this... I got 10 minutes into it and was kinda turned off by it. Maybe I'll check it out down the line.

It's the same story as the movie, just more fleshed out. I don't see how you could like the movie and not this.

Season 2 is out Friday. So excited!

Eh, the series is close enough to the books content wise, but the books are NOT comedies. The show is way too light and funny in tone, and because of that there’s like no tension at all.

This is in my wish list at Netflix. Is this series slow and do you need any prior knowledge of the material/books? I watched the 2004 film and didn't like it much.

You don’t need to have read the books. The show is not slow, but it’s structure is a bit repetitive so you may find yourself losing patience with it if you’re not in love with the particular episodes location or storyline.

The weakest episodes by far are The Vile Village.

How could society ever accept someone who can write equally well with both hands?
