I'm not sure why people think this is going to be fake. Not that it couldn't be, but both Ferrell and especially Wiig have proven they can act in serious or semi-serious roles. It's certainly suspect that either would do this kind of project, but it's interesting to say the least.

Ferrell is a big fan of Lifetime movies and wanted to do one and he approached Wiig to do one with him. That's the story I guess.

In my opinion, it is played completely straight...which is the gag. It is a sudsy Lifetime melodrama through and through, only becoming a comedy because of people's conception of the actors.

I imagine it disappointed a lot of people, honestly. Those hoping for an Anchorman-type experience parodying Lifetime.

They do play it mostly straight, but it's so ludicrous at times that there are laughs to be had. Her falling in the water in the beginning was pretty funny. And that ending was just hilariously cheesy. There's another moment that made me laugh out loud and I can't even remember what it was.

Overall, it's dumb. This is a total Lifetime movie. But the novelty of it starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig make it pretty entertaining. Definitely guilty pleasure territory.
