Happy Valley (BBC One/Netflix)
I have watched the first two episodes, and, wow, it is riveting. It plays in many ways as a British variation on the Fargo series: a sensitive-but-strong policewoman heroine, average suburbanites whose bad decisions leave them in over their heads, etc. The mix of drama, suspense, and subtle humor is just right. And the performances are completely natural and engaging. There is nary a false note among the cast, and lead Sarah Lancashire is dynamite.
