Has anyone watched the British conspiracy/thriller-series "Utopia"? If not, I urge you to do so. Nowadays, when TV series have come so far and have impressed the viewers over and over again, it is almost unbelievable to say that this is something I have never seen before. Its plot is not unique, but its composition (musically and visuallay) most certainly are. David Fincher and Gillian Flynn are remaking the British series for HBO (and Fincher plans to direct every single episode of the remakes first season). It'll probably be great, but I still recommend to check out the British series beforehand. Just watch the first season's opening scene. It sets the tone for the series very well. If you like that, you should check out more: |

Seems shocking more than anything. But I may give it a go eventually. |

It's not much of a time investment, given that the British seasons are really short. There are 12 episodes thus far. I am three episodes into it, watching the fourth tonight. It has got a lot of pitch-black humor, really dark, violent scenes (some stuff I am really surprised they showed on British television, though then again there have been lots of complaints about it afterwards) and a very intriguing plot. |

It looks a bit like Edgar Wright movies mashed in with Layer Cake. Is that right? I'll check it out |

Layer Cake, no. Edgar Wright, a little yes. But it is really a beast of its own. I'd love to read your thoughts when you watch it. |

I don't know of Channel 4's status, but I certainly have never seen anything like it in European television. There is some really nasty stuff in there. The channel received tons of complaints too. |

Watched the first season earlier this summer. It's fantastic. Can't wait for Fincher's adaptation. |

Similar to "True Detective's" Pizzolatto/Fukunaga team-up, Fincher will direct all episodes of season 1 and Gillian Flynn will write all episodes herself. This will be quite an event. |

He's a GREAT fit for this material. A lot of the stylistic choices in the British series reminded me of him. |

One of the British series' strongest features is its score. They need to get someone really good for that. |

I caught up to both seasons. I thought season 1 was very interesting but season 2 got too convoluted with characters easily switching sides. I'm referring to Wilson and Arby. I know if someone Mark Wahlberg my eyeball, I would never work with them. Season 2 episode 1 was probably the best but they only devoted one episode to the younger Philip Carvel. I do wish that Chan 4 didn't pull the plug on the series. |

I just watched episode 1. It was good enough for me to want to continue. The score is pretty addictive. It has the makings of a good TV series. It's not as violent as I expected, but then maybe I am just akin to violence now so it's like water off a duck's back. I wouldn't say it's particularly original either. It has a style, pace and atmosphere of things I've seen before, but it's still very well composed. I didn't download series 2 yet. That will depend on my thoughts of the entire series 1. |

The Fincher/Flynn adaptation is dead at HBO. They released the cast from their contracts, including Rooney Mara and Jason Ritter. http://deadline.com/2015/08/utopia-davi ... 201495743/ |

I only got to episode 3. I'm not interested to go further to be honest. Didn't grip me. Might delete it all, because I'm really never going to watch it. |

Same here. I watched the first two episodes a while back, but couldn't really get into it. |

I didn't dislike anything really. Or nothing that I can put my finger on, I'm just not invested in the storyline. I don't care how it ends. For a TV series, that's all that is needed for me to stop watching. Technically, it is proficient. It's violent too, and has a great score (and sound in general). I suppose, as a very shallow criticism, it's rather hollow in terms of content, despite parading a convoluted plot. |
