 The Sound of Music LIVE!
I know this probably isn't going to be a very popular choice here but whatever. I watched the behind the scenes special that aired a couple days ago this morning, and it seems really wonderful. The sets are fantastic, Underwood seems great (which is saying something because I was bitching about her involvement with this for months) and the cast as a whole seems fantastic. Can't wait to see this! Hope it does well for NBC, they have a lot riding on this. If it does well, maybe we can get more musicals for television.

LOL. They're doing The Sound of Music live? On TV? I expect a complete failure.

It's not like these have never done before. They were popular back in the 1950s.

LOL I'm going to watch out of curiosity but it looks absolutely horrible, IMO. I'm excited for it to be over because the non-stop promotion has been grating.

Underwood seems well out of her league.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
If this were starring Kristen Bell it would have been my most-anticipated TV event of the year probably . Unsure if the Oscars would rank before or after it. But with Carrie Underwood I just don't care.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
I watched a half hour of this between The Big Bang Theory and Grey's.
I adore Carrie Underwood and she sounds great but she has...limitations...as an actress. Serious limitations.

This is, like, one of the worst things I've ever watched. Such a trainwreck LOL. Carrie Underwood should never act again.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
Audra McDonald was fantastic in this. Also loved seeing Kristine Nielsen in a small role since she's a great actress onstage.
The rest was so, so, so bad. Stephen Moyer and Carrie Underwood were both so awful and had zero chemistry.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
I'm about half way through it and it's just wonderful. Did anyone really expect Carrie Underwood to be this absolutely wonderful actress? No. But she is a wonderful singer and her acting during her songs is great. She is serviceable. Audra and Laura Benanti are just wonderful. The sets are amazing too. It's not perfect by any means, but it's a live broadcast. It's not going to be perfect. Without Underwood, this production wouldn't have happened and for that, I am thankful. Thank you Carrie Underwood and thank you NBC for take such a huge risk. And that risk is going to pay off in the numbers tomorrow. It's all anyone was talking about all night on twitter, Facebook, Instagram. Can't wait until their next live musical.

LOL @ the reactions. I'm seriously considering to see it somewhere just to see what kind of a train-wreck this is.

thompsoncory wrote: It's rightfully getting horrible reviews this morning Uhh, I just read BroadwayWorld's review round up for it and if anything, they sound more mixed than anything. It has it's share of people that enjoyed/loved it. This was NEVER going to be a perfect production. I don't think ANYONE expected Carrie Underwood's acting to be fantastic, it just wasn't going to happen. But there was enough to enjoy here to make it worth it. I stand by what I said, this was wonderful and I enjoyed it a ton. AND thankfully, most people on Broadway websites are enjoying it (and I have heard plenty of great things from people who aren't Broadway lovers, but the fact that it has their stamp of approval makes me happy) and have pretty much said the same things that I have. You need to give these people credit. Even Carrie Underwood, whom without something like this would have NEVER been on air. It brought theatre to people who normally wouldn't watch theatre. That's a special thing. I don't understand why everyone needs to nitpick every little detail about it.

Thank you for your review after watching about ten minutes of it. It is clearly appreciated.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
I'm sorry, but it was horrible. I've seen plenty of theatre and live broadcasts and I understand how hard it is to do something in front of a live audience. But it doesn't excuse a lot of the faults this production had as a whole.
And there are many people far more popular and talented than Carrie Underwood that could have done a better job with that role. She had a 'deer-in-the-headlights' look on her face THE ENTIRE TIME. It was a bad performance.
Though to be fair I think Stephen Moyer was just as bad.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
If you were expecting her to be this wonderful actress, you are on crack. She sang the role fantastically, that is more than what I was expecting when her casting was first announced.

Then release a Sound of Music soundtrack. Don't make us sit through that garbage.

Re: The Sound of Music LIVE!
I think it's fair to expect a good performance from someone that had such a hyped casting announcement. Not to mention she had a YEAR to prepare for this thing while the other actors were only announced and cast this summer.

Not to mention she had a YEAR to prepare for this thing while the other actors were only announced and cast this summer. Not necessarily. Some people just aren't actors. Carrie is one of them. She has a terrific voice, and from what I saw of it, I blame her awkward, wooden acting more on the direction than anything else. Of course she's going to suffer compared to pros like Audra McDonald and Christian Borle. Regardless, this had humongous ratings last night so I'd expect another live musical next year. Which is cool. I hope they fine tune the awkwardness this one had.
