 The Blacklist (NBC)
Among the fall's new crop, this one intrigues me more than most. James Spader is a talented actor and appears to have a flashy role here. I hope it is an entertaining and at least relatively smart series.

So far:
Silence of the Lambs The Rock Girl is probably his daughter
But at least it's being more hannibalish than Hannibal. Spader is always fun to watch.

I have absolutely zero interest in watching this, even though reviews are good. Seems so bland.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
This pilot...had some problems (perhaps most importantly was female lead Megan Boone coming across as a second-rate Rachel McAdams), but it had a pretty cool hook and James Spader is just magnetic as usual.
Also, it was better than Hostages.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
I adored the pilot. Fun, suspenseful, twisty, well-acted (by Spader and the female lead), etc. I am very excited to see where it goes, and I am glad it is a hit.
My favorite new series of the year.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
How much of a procedural is this?
As someone that hates procedurals with a passion it's a big reason I'm not watching this. Looks like a ripoff of "Person of Interest."

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
There are elements of procedure in the sense it is an espionage/investigation themed series, but it does not play as a Criminal Minds type series. I suspect the focus will primarily be on the two main characters and the evolution of their love/hate partnership.
You should at least give it a chance. You can always drop it if you deem it too procedural.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
Feels more like the Following or Alcatraz kind of procedure. Like those an interesting enough Pilot, but let's hope it can sustain it.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
I couldn't help but think The Silence of the Lambs when Elizabeth and Reddington first meet. Anyhow, I didn't expect to be pulled in and like it as much as I did. I was impressed.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
Ummmmm, this pilot is pretty retarded? The story was full with lazy and cliche writing. I liked Spader a lot though.

could they make it any more obvious that she's his daughter?

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
This show is completely ridiculous but at least it doesn't take itself seriously as Hostages. I'm still finding Megan Boone to be a black hole of charisma, though. She was better here than in the pilot but it's going to hurt the show long-term if one of the two leads is so bland all the time.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
The second episode was sooooo boring. And I don't like the procedural feel. It feels forced. And the show is already too repetitive.

I dig Megan Boone in the lead female role. Maybe because she is absolutely gorgeous.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
Tom Noonan almost reprising his Tooth Fairy role from Manhunter in the most recent episode was a fantastic piece of guest-star casting. I cannot help but love this series. I know it is absurd, and it will never catch on with the A.V. Club types, but I find it riveting and often highly amusing. I dig Megan Boone and, of course, James Spader in their respective roles. Simply put, at 10pm on Monday nights, I have no problem forgiving lapses in logic in the name of an hour of left-field plot twists and Spader one-liners.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
"The Good Samartian Killer" was the best episode of the series so far. This show is fun to watch. Sometimes, Raymond Redington is like male version of "Emily" from "Revenge".

I still enjoy the series a lot, too, particularly Spader's performance. Glad it is popular.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
Ever since Tom Keen's true identity as a spy was revealed, The Blacklist has gotten even better!!! There's only two episodes left in the season.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
I still enjoy it a lot, though at times it can be a chore to sit through the terrorist-of-the-week procedural stories when the central mystery is so much more interesting and tense.

 Re: The Blacklist (NBC)
Netflix is acquiring episodes for $2 million each: Quote: EXCLUSIVE: In what is believed to be the biggest subscription video-on-demand deal for a TV series, I’ve learned that Netflix has acquired the rights to hit NBC drama The Blacklist from Sony Pictures TV in a deal that will net $2 million per episode. I hear Season 1 of the series starring James Spader will debut on the streaming service next weekend. As for future seasons, Netflix usually makes them available shortly after the season finales.
Sony TV first tested the off-network market waters for The Blacklist in March. While other streaming services, like Amazon and Hulu, do joint syndication deals with cable networks, Netflix, which largely pioneered the series SVOD business, insists on getting first dibs. Twentieth Television just recently sold New Girl to TBS and MTV, more than an year after prior seasons of the Fox series landed at Netflix in a rich deal, said to be worth $900,000 an episode. Like was the case with New Girl, I hear Sony TV has the right to also sell The Blacklist in cable and broadcast syndication, with Netflix getting an exclusive first window. The $2 million per-episode fee is said to be the biggest for an off-network series paid by Netflix (or any others streaming company), eclipsing previous record holder, AMC’s The Walking Dead, whose sale price to Netflix is believed to be $1.35 million per episode.
It is fitting that Sony TV is charting new territory in the broadcast space with the rich Blacklist deal. The studio was an early Netflix adopter, making one of the early series deals with the streaming service for its AMC drama Breaking Bad, which became one of the first Netflix mega hits and helped usher in the era of binge viewing. The Breaking Bad prequel comedy Better Call Saul also will stream on Netflix, and Sony TV also became one of the first major studios to produce an original series for the streaming service with KZK.
The Blacklist, in which NBC has minority ownership, is a successful, syndicatable broadcast procedural drama, which has been a rare breed during the past five years as the networks have gravitated toward more serialized fare. But it also features a serialized main storyline, making it attractive for streaming services like Netflix. (Blacklist also set a string of DVR records, and time shifted viewing is at the core of online streaming.)
The Blacklist is NBC’s flagship scripted series, which airs behind The Voice on Mondays and is poised to become the network’s new Thursday 9 PM anchor in midseason. It was the breakout new series of last season, averaging a 4.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 15.4 million total viewers in Live+7, only a fraction behind ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in the broadcast drama rankings among 18-49 and network TV’s third-most-watched drama behind CBS’ NCIS and NCIS: LA. Both Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS: LA fetched cable syndication license fees just north of $2 million. The Blacklist accomplished that with the Netflix deal. With cable and broadcast syndication pacts in the offing, it is expected to eclipse the $3 million per-episode total netted by CBS’ Elementary from SVOD (Hulu Plus), cable (WGN America) and broadcast syndication.
This show is going to make a lot of money if it continues to do well in the ratings. http://deadline.com/2014/08/the-blackli ... on-825836/
