I know this isn't new, but the trend has never been as big before as now.

The Bates Motel and Hannibal are apparently doing well enough (at least with critics as far as the latter is concerned), so we're gonna see many many more movies turned into TV series.

Already greenlit and coming up: "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Bad Teacher"

In the works:

"Dominion" - TV-series for Legion....yes, that Terminator-knock-off with angels and Paul Bettany.
"Copland"-series
"Fargo"-series (with Billy Bob Thornton in the leading role)
"Scream"-series

and now apparently also a "The Exorcist"-series

Parenthood is another successful one as the 1989 movie was very successful. The 1990 sitcom was a flop but the drama is now in its 5th season.

Its just an extension of the trend of constant film remakes of recent movies---I'm sorry, "reboots." Can we retire that word?

Every studio wants titles with pre-awareness because they think we're mindless boobs who are only getting dumber...they're not wrong.

Few more added to the development slate:

Rambo
12 Monkeys (pilot greenlit on SyFy)
From Dusk till Dawn
Reality Bites (comedy show for NBC)
El Mariachi (Spanish-language production)
The Exorcist

The hell?

It's a guaranteed audience moreso than cinema. It's also free to watch. It reaches many more people.

Reality Bites is a strange one. I am a fan of the movie, but it is such a time capsule. Is it going to be That '90s Show?

I don't think it's that much of a rise. There has always been a few TV series based on movies each year. I think it's a growing trend that they at least try a lot more. Actually take the time to adapt it.

a show about exorcisms could actually do really well. I mean they all can't be exorcisms, but religion vs. devil kind of serial show could be a lot of fun. I'm sure half the ones in development won't ever get out of it though.

I'll tell you what Looper done right could be a great series, much more than 12 monkeys.

HBO will produce a Westworld TV-series.

Now that is one of the few that I'd actually be interested in.

When an idea can't get made on the big screen, they go to the small screen. Westworld is a perfect example of that. As is Rambo and the Terminator TV series.

I might check out the Limitless one. Interesting concept that could work on TV. Especially if they kinda went the Breaking Bad route with the drug.

I don't think NBC realizes what works and what doesn't. They're too overjoyed with The Voice to know the difference anymore.

They wanted their TVD/TB. They failed. Now they want Teen Wolf. They will fail again.

Great... now we can hear David moan again about how the masses and critics don't get the Wolfman and that its ahead of its time and so avant garde.
