Post My So-Called Life
Who has seen the one season wonder?

I just watched the whole series a couple months ago. I thought it was pretty good. A little slow at first but it eventually grew on me. What was surprising, though, is that by the end of the series, Claire Danes' character was my least favorite. They kinda wrote her into the ground. Just about every character, including her parents and sister, were far more interesting. Her friend Reyan was definitely the highlight of the show, something I did not expect from the onset of the show.

I didn't love it as much as I thought I may given it was from the same people who later made Once and Again, which was at least ten times better. I'm really waiting for thirtysomething to come out on DVD next.

Also, I'm in the middle of watching Freaks and Geeks right now and I definitely prefer My So-Called Life over it.

Anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

Oh yeah... the one thing that made it almost unbearable to watch: THE CLOTHES!!!!! Did people really wear that kind of stuff in the early 90's?? I'll be the first to say I have no fashion sense at all but my LORD, Claire Danes' wardrobe would make me want to run to Carrie Bradshaw's for refuge.

About halfway through watching this - Man, I can't believe how spectacularly AWESOME this is. Even though I had heard about this show's quality for a while, I was expecting some "emo high school honesty/i hate populars' type of stuff that didn't really appeal to me. Couldn't be more wrong - I think the show would be just as good if it was exclusively about 25+ year olds. It's just the writing and character complexity is that spectacular. Like it deserves to be called a precursor to shows like The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Shield, Mad Men, etc. even though the subject matter couldn't be more different, because of how every character decision and line is backed with layers of complexity and every decision has cause/consequence, in a film screenwriting caliber way that the amazing TV shows of the last decade have taken on (I wouldn't even call the depictions of teenagers that realistic tbh, they're all a step up in maturity and intelligence level than what could regularly be expected - it's closer to "uses teenagers as setting to make show about human complexity" than some attempt to document teenagers, IMO) Probably one of the best half seasons of a show I've seen

Really sucks that this didn't even get a second season. :tears: Loved it when I watched it a couple of years ago.
