Post Emmy speculation
So the nominations won't be announced until July, but it's a good time to start speculating on which shows and nominees will be announced for TV's big awards. Can Homeland or Game of Thrones unseat Mad Men as Best Drama? Will Bryan Cranston four-peat? Can Happy Endings get some recognition please?

So with the general feeling towards Modern Family being mixed this year, who will actually beat it for Best Comedy this year? We can all say how Happy Endings and Cougar Town should be nominated, but there are no guarantees that either show will make the list. It might be interesting to see which show does beat Modern Family, if it doesn't three-peat.

I can't imagine Homeland losing Best Drama, but I wouldn't count out Mad Men. The Emmys love them some Mad Men.

I think Mad Men will win its fifth and Cranston his fourth.

Homeland is definitely the best shot at an upset for Drama though, for sure.

For me though, the real nail-biter is going to be what actually gets into Drama Series. There are 7 legitimate contender for 6 spots.

Boardwalk Empire
Breaking Bad
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
The Good Wife
Homeland
Mad Men

One of those it not making it in. I'd say The Good Wife and Downton Abbey are at the most risk. The Good Wife has the edge of being the only network show but it's still going to be so, so close I think.

No HE or CT in comedy pls. They don't deserve it. B!tch handily beats them with 7 episodes aired. But then again they are a better pick than the usual crap Emmys nominate and award (30 Rock!!).

Drama categories are more interesting as always. GOT, TGW for everything.

I do think Homeland is going to end Mad Men's streak, and Claire Danes will pick up an Emmy too. I'm not sure Bryan Cranston is beatable so probably not Damian Lewis.

As far as the comedy category goes...it's hard to say. I think Modern Family will still win the top prize even though it was a notch below the prior two seasons this past year.

Yeah, this will be an easy win for Danes for sure.

I also think Modern Family will win for its least funny season. Julie Bowen will win (again), either Ty Burrell or Ed O'Neill will as well.

Really? I was kind of hoping Revenge would find a few nods.

This must be that time of year between the end of the season and Emmy nominations when I think certain shows actually stand a chance of ever being nominated (i.e. Revenge, Happy Endings).

I think it will be Breaking Bad, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Downtown Abbey, Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men that will be nominated. It could be the first year where no network tv show will be nominated for best drama

HBO should have wrote in Peter Dinklage in lead rather than supporting. Even than I think hes almost a lock to win best supporting actor again

I still see The Good Wife getting nominated (at least I hope it does) as the continued lone representation of the network drama. It also sent out 7 screener episodes to Emmy voters rather than the norm of 2 or 3. I'm not sure Downton Abbey will actually have enough support despite being a semi pop culture phenom.

Yeah, Revenge ain't getting nominated for a thing. It's too "soapy" for Emmy tastes, I would think, despite being an awesome show. Grey's Anatomy was nominated for Best Drama a couple of times but that was when it was an inescapable aspect of pop culture.

:tears:

It's kind of weird that Modern Family will win again. Cable comedies never do anything, and there aren't any serious contenders this year. The only upset possible is Parks & Rec, and it's still too under the radar.

What else will be nominated? Can they honestly still recognize The Office and 30 Rock? New Girl MAY get nominated, but I don't see it... same for 2 Broke Girls.

Please god no Big Bang victory this year. That would suck worse than anything.

Happy Endings.

I honestly think they should win EVERY comedy award. Actress/Actor/Supp/Show. Easily.

I have a feeling that they'd all submit as supporting since it's an ensemble.

In terms of lead performances in comedies I'd say Amy Poehler finally deserves recognition for "Parks" this year, or maybe Julia-Louis Dreyfus for "Veep."

Im certain Downtown Abbey is getting in. It won best miniseries last year.

If any other series that could be left out in the race, it could be either Boardwalk Empire or The Good Wife. Mad Men is a lock to get nominated because it won last year. Breaking Bad has always been nominated since season 2 and was the best reviewed show last year. Homeland again was one of the 3 best reviewed show and won a Golden Globe last year. Game of Thrones has huge critical rating, is still very fresh in Emmy voters mind, and is probably the trendiest and hip show among the candidates (kind of like Lost and the X-files were at their peak).

Now that leaves either Boardwalk Empire or the Good Wife. Again Boardwalk Empire's season 2 has been notably missing from alot of the critics top 10 list when season 1 was among their top 3. Ratings for the show dropped like 35% but it did win some sort of award that escapes my mind.

The Good Wife has always been pretty much a place holder among the best drama shows the past 3 years. Again, quite low on the 18-49 bracket and also it didnt quite register alot of critics list unlike its previous seasons.

I'm not sure why either of those actually matters for getting an Emmy nomination. Critics don't decide Emmys, and I'm not sure what you're basing these "lists" on...the third season was very acclaimed. And I don't agree it's been a placeholder nominee: shows that win acting awards (The Good Wife has two already) shouldn't be immediately considered placeholders.

Its never that far off from those critics list save for a few genre shows like Battlestar Galatica or shows the public find a little too boring like Treme. TGW is still a placeholder show because its never writing, directing or series. Heck Dexter is a placeholder show even though Michael C Hall has won a few acting.

I know I've said this many times before, but it is going to be absolutely outrageous if Emmy Rossum isn't nominated for "Shameless" again. She is so incredible on that series and it kills me that no one seems to notice.

He has never won an Emmy, actually.

Will Peter Dinklage get nominated for Best Actor or supporting? Not sure if any of the other cast will get nominated or not. Charles Dance will get some consideration. I do think the girl who plays Arya should be nominated, but am not sure if she will be.

It is funny to note, though, that all 7 of the top drama contenders (Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife, Homeland, Mad Men) air on Sunday nights. lolwut
