This starts tonight. Seems fantastic. :) I can't wait to watch.

Somebody at work gave me the complete season though havn't watched it yet. What are your thoughts so far?

Just finished the first season. Good stuff, though some characters are much more one-dimensional than I hoped for with a show like this. There is room for improvement.

Julian Fellowes recently said, when asked about potential spin-offs after the show's end:

Quote:
We could have shows just focussing on Mr Bates and Anna. It depends on the actors.

Yup, that'd pretty much make the worst spin-off ever. Like giving Kim Bauer from "24" her own show.

Ha, ha. My God. With Bates, it would rapidly become a murder mystery.

If there is a spinoff, I might select Thomas Barrow as the subject. I can imagine his later life being interesting, particularly if he ends up in London.

The final season belatedly began airing in the U.S. tonight. I have thus far avoided spoilers.

I enjoyed the final season premiere quite a bit, though it may be 100-percent safe now to declare the characters of Anna and Mr. Bates ruined. The drawn-drawn-drawn-out Green "murder mystery" came to a merciful, long overdue, completely inert ending (it was...another woman in a pub, woo!), but it seems it will be rapidly replaced by scene after scene of Anna bemoaning her potential infertility. These two characters, once highlights, have truly become woebegone caricatures.

But it will be wonderful to spend one more season with Lady Mary, Lady Edith, Mrs. Patmore, the Dowager Countess, etc. This series, ups and downs, does mean a great deal to me.

lol, I was not prepared for Robert's projectile blood vomit in the most recent episode. ;)

Mr. Bates single-handedly drags the show down for me. And to think that I actually liked him a great deal in the first 1-2 seasons... But whenever I see that self-righteous smirk on his face, I just want to smash it.
