Well, those people who had committed their sunday night to Desperate Housewives had only one place to turn :P

Que bordem, tedium, self-gratious acceptance speeches and some of the worst television ever that pulls ratings far higher than it should........THE OSCARS!

Umm Libs those numbers might be wrong.

As expected, the 77th Annual Academy Awards telecast took a big hit in the ratings Sunday night, falling more than 21 percent below last year's numbers. The ABC telecast registered a 23.3 rating and a 34 share in primetime versus a 29.6/40 a year ago. (It peaked in the 9:00 p.m. hour with a 24.7/35) Last year's telecast saw a 17-percent rise in the ratings, largely attributed to the return of Billy Crystal as host. But even the previous year's telecast produced significantly higher ratings -- a 25.2/37. Sunday's telecast recorded an 11.7 rating among adults 18-49. The figures were in line with most industry analysts' expectations. Earlier in the evening, a Barbara Walters interview special captured a 10.8/17 opposite CBS's 60 Minutes, which managed to come up with only a 6.1/10.

Uhhh that sounds REALLY OFF!!

From what I heard or read, it dipped 2 million (5%) from 43.5 to 41.5 million viewers!
Plus last year's rise wasn't attributed to Billy Crystal, it's cuz the previous year Bush had just waged war against Iraq the week of the awards.

The golden globes, the grammys and now the oscars. all down in viewership. It's an interesting trend. maybe people are just tired of awards show lately. Or because there's so many awards shows it all seems the same. Chris rock even made a joke on jay leno last week about so many awards.

The overnights showed the ratings were higher than they actually were. Sorry for the confusion.
