Jacob is a fool who decided that listening to a crazy woman that killed his mother is a better idea than listening to his reasonable brother. So he turns his brothers into black smoke (unplanned) and guards the island for hundreds of years BECAUSE A CRAZY WOMAN TOLD HIM SO!

Have many actions in history (not just Lost history) taken place for a better reason? This show has been about science vs religion from the beginning, this is just another example.

Yes. Because Lost is very historic. And scientifically correct. Hell there's a white light in the center of every island! For a TV show the explanation was such a pretty dud after a six year build-up.

A quote from the interview Rev posted.

Quote:
A lot of people have been remarking that Lost has been doing a lot of showing and not telling, like with the glowing cave and other examples, you kind of have to figure it out for yourself. Do you think that is accurate?

Carlton Cuse: I think that we always feel as storytellers it's better to show than to tell. For instance, when our characters were in Dharma time, it's much more interesting to have our characters exist in Dharma time than to have some old raggy Dharma character come stumbling out and say, "This is what it is like in 1977 Dharma time." We feel just as dramatists that's the better way to go. I think that you should expect that of the finale as well.

He really didn't understood the question, did he? We didn't have to figure out the characters were in Dharma time you dumbass. You even had characters telling us that

LOST still amazes me to date. This is probably the best season of the show.

I got my 4 lost shirts in the mail!

This season has had its ups and downs, mostly downs but it's still a good final season.

Can anyone else see Desmond getting thrown into the light ... but somehow surviving the fate that MIB encountered? Maybe he's the key to somehow allowing MIB to move on and die in peace, thus putting the light back as it should be.

Eh? I never got the idea that the light is somehow broken and needs to be fixed. :er:

If you watch when Jacob throws his brother down the hole, the light diminishes significantly and the smoke is what emerges in it's place. The effect left me believing that the smoke monster took part of the power of the island, and that removing it was essential. I've also got the feeling that Jacob feels he was wrong to imprison his brother on the island forever, and that he wants to free him the way his fake mother was freed at the time of her death.

All just opinions and conjecture, but the light was noticeably faint, if there at all, once Jacob threw his brother down the hole.

I thought of that as a reaction to his body like when the light bulb goes slightly off when there's a glitch or something. As far as I can tell when MiB removed that rock in the well the light was as bright as it was when their mother showed them the first time.

Though it makes sense that MiB collected something from the light and that's the reason why he can't leave the island.

As long as I can't even get a reasonable explanation of what "the light" is, it feels ridiculous to me to even talk about it, heh.

I think they should have done a better job wording what they said about the light. I have no problem with it being some supernatural thing that can't fully be explained, but the dialog explaining it was painful at best.

At this point, the finale needs to be Lindelof and Cuse just sitting in front of a camera, answering questions for two-and-a-half hours to please some of you.

Seriously.

The finale will probably be an amazing piece of television, and all this thread will be is nonstop bitching about how they didn't answer enough questions.

I don't give a fuck about answers (though they do need to answer a great deal), I just want the finale to be enjoyable and entertaining. Which, for me, this season was not.

That's my main wish for the finale as well (for it to be enjoyable and entertaining). I guess I'm just annoyed by the people (some of my friends do this too) who are all like "I HATE LOST THEY NEVER ANSWER ANYTHING GIVE ME ANSWERS NOW THIS SHOW SUCKS"

Like, chill.

That's basically how that scene looked and sounded to me. There is yet absolutely no reason offered for what was going on. We already knew for a long time someone was supposed to replace Jacob, but why all the hoopla? Hopefully some big twists sheds a better light on everything.

I'm not annoyed by not having answers. I can take things for granted (and I was completely prepared for it since season 3). My main problem is that for three seasons now Lost has been doing half-assed job with characters and story. It's not about the explanations it's that characters and their actions make no sense and whatever writers do with them makes even less sense. Once all mighty and seemingly all knowing Richard gets killed in a matter of blip? Lapidus has been here for three seasons, he was the original pilot for Oceanic 815 and it seemed like he had a bigger place in the story. But no, he's killed by blowned up doors without dong anything in three seasons. He was like this glorified sideline character. And Sayid? So much time spent on Sayid and even this whole story about him being infected with the darkness and finally getting redemption for everything by sacrificing himself felt like it was done because they had no idea how to deal with whatever they wanted to do with him...

I keep going back to Charlie's death over and over this season. Really, what they have done with him was supposed to be done this season with all major characters if it was the plan to kill most of them. I wouldn't care if they never explained much, but I expected emotions, intrigue, etc. everything Lost once done so superbly. But zilch. This season I have been mostly rolling my eyes to most of what was happening on island, to the dialogues and basically everything.

Fuck everything there's only one thing i want in the finale, a Sawyer/Juliet reunion tose two were the best couple on the show, i dont care if the show has an awful finale, If these two get reuinited someway, I'm gonna be happy.
