Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
The fact that this ending obviously WAS the plan all along actually makes me feel angrier about the fact that it happened. Cristin Milioti was so PERFECT in this role and I really feel like her death in the last 5 minutes of the episode was such an afterthought and messes with the show's romantic spirit completely. Gonna need time to process I guess.

Was it the plan, though? The kids have said they filmed multiple endings.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
I thought the finale was underwhelming and I didn't like the Robin twist at the end at all. But quite a few scenes were definitely emotional and I loved the Barney moment. Alyson Hannigan looked on the verge of tears in every scene.
Cristin Miloti was so underused in this season though. Her character is ultimately such an afterthought, which is a shame because her solo episode was one of the best they've ever done.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
I couldnt be more angry right now....
Fucking fuck it.
I saw that ending as soon as Robin told. Lily Ted was the man of her life. Fucking fuck this piece of shit.
A WHOLE SEASON DEVOTED TO A WEDDING AND THEN HAVE THEM DIVORCE 10 minutgs into the episode.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
The episode wasn't even funny or joyful - it was mostly depressing. Like, sure that whole thing about growing apart from your friends is realistic but it was just hard to leave feeling good after all that.
Also, I can't get past the fact that the kids were like "Oh no big deal Mom's dead, we've known you've always been in love with Robin." Such a cop-out.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
I thought it was clear the moment Barney did his first, "It's great... it's great... it's great..." There was no other reason to break up a marriage we'd just spent 22 episodes building up to.

Also, WTF was the point of that scene where Lily said "Ted hasn't been in love like this before" or something to that effect?! Clearly that wasn't the case!

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
They did everything wrong. Everything but the train scene....
The mother did die but.... It had almost no emotional moment and it was squashed by the kids encouraging him to go after Robin.
Fucking fuck you you just dont do that

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
The train scene was phenomenal and made me cry. Give me more stuff like that in the finale.
Basically, the Mother is the love of Ted's life. That's the point of the show. Except, nope, she's just a stop gap on the way back to Robin.

Also, whoever handled the wigs/hair on this episode should never work again. Cobie Smulders looked atrocious tonight and Ted's gray Halloween spray can colored hair wasn't much better.

THIS. The finale was a slap to the main core of he show... This is the shory of how he met their mother.... No how Ted ends up with Robin.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
In a way, Cristin Milioti and the Tracy character being so fundamentally perfect ruined the ending of this show. If she hadn't been on AT ALL until the ending or Milioti had sucked or Tracy was boring, Ted/Robin being endgame would have been much easier to swallow.
I'm really gonna miss Ted, Robin, Barney, Lily and Marshall. And Tracy. I consider these people "my friends." And this is one of my favorite shows of all time. But this conclusion is going to go down as a mistake.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
That's true. Milioti is so goddamn good, and her character so completely likable, that I just can't buy this as anything close to a 'happy' ending. (I'm not someone who thinks a show has to end happily, but Carter and Bays clearly think this is happy.)

I don't watch the show regularly but adoption twist was the way to go if they wanted Ted/Robin endgame IMO

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
Omg.... I just noticed how the finale completely undermines my favorite moment of the entire series (the beautiful speech at the end of the Time Travelers episode).
Why do you want those 45 extra days Ted? Those would be 45 more days you'd be without Robin.
Fuck thewriters for ruining that moment.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
Things like that make me think about how completely things change based on how they're presented.
In this case, imagine the same basic ending. The Mother dies, Ted ends up with Robin. But instead of the kids rooting out that the whole story has been his way of asking permission to date Robin... what if it's that he really loves the Mother so much, but the kids realize how much he likes Robin and basically force him to call her?
Same ending, same pairing, yet in a way that doesn't undermine Ted's relationship with Tracy.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
I remember the pilot way back when. Loved it. Went on this adventure. So unbelievably great moments with some roll your eyes moments more than I would've liked but it was ok. They always seemed to bounce back. Marshall never made me angry. Lily rarely made me angry. Barney rarely made me angry. Robin made me angry. Ted made me angry. And it was nice these past few episodes those two finally stopped making me angry. I was happy with their paths. I'm fine with the divorce. I wasn't until that sweet scene with Barney's baby. I genuinely started to get on board with this ending. I cried so hard when they were on that platform... Fuck I can't write anymore. This is dumb. I hate Robin. Will always love the show. Lawyer'd forever.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
They should have never introduced the mother at all before the final episode. That was their cardinal mistake if they wanted to go this route all along...
Everybody loved Barney and Robin and everybody loved Ted and the Mother. To screw with both of these things in the final episode feels rushed and brutal

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
I was disappointed with the finale. I was sad when the mother was killed off and when Barney and Robin got a divorce . I felt that the finale crammed too many years into one hour. At least, Lily and Marshall had a happy ending and it was great to see the scene between the baby and Barney.

Re: How I Met Your Mother - The Final Season
Basically, the main problem with this ending is that it was the perfect ending for the show...in 2006, when they devised it.
But in the subsequent nine seasons, the series has developed in such a way that this ending (Ted/Robin) no longer makes sense and is unsatisfying. But they went with it anyway. Cue the anger.
As I said before, though, blowing the landing doesn't negate the nine seasons of satisfaction I got from this show. I'm really gonna miss it.
